There will be no shortage of headlines going into the baseball season this spring.

Three teams return as district champions, a plethora of all-county members are back and while two teams begin the season ranked, there could be a few more by season's end.

Here's a look at the headlines going into the new season:

Player of the Year

Adrian senior Tyler Bruggeman returns as the defending Lenawee County Baseball Player of the Year and will aim to retain the honor, but he has a handful of athletes looking to take it this season.

Sand Creek junior Ivan Wilkinson was right up there with Bruggeman last season in consideration and he'll be there again without question. The Aggies are poised for another strong season with many starters returning to the lineup, but looking to lead Sand Creek to a run at the TCC and deep into June is Wilkinson.

Blissfield begins the season ranked No. 11 in the state in Division 3 and will be led by senior Blake Wood. The Royals are a traditional power and will once again in the hunt for the LCAA with Wood leading the charge.

Clinton had an up and down season last year, but the Redwolves will be in the hunt for the LCAA as well and leading them will be senior Jalen Stelzer. If Clinton is at the top of the LCAA at the end of the season, Stelzer will be a major part of it.

Onsted starts the season at No. 18 in Division 3 and has a pair of seniors looking to lead the Wildcats in the LCAA and they are Xavier Gibbs and JT Hill.

Gibbs is one of the premier pitchers in the area, but he can do more than throw while Hill is an outfielder who can go on the mound and get people out as well.

Madison finished last season with a big upset win against Blissfield in districts and much of the team returns and looking to have a big season. Junior Brian Dopp will lead the Trojans on the diamond and look to take a title or two.

New leaders

There a few new head coaches around the area starting with Scott Abbott at Blissfield. The Royals have a longstanding tradition in baseball and shouldn't slow down going into this season.

Matt Enders is now head coach of Morenci and the Bulldogs do have a few returners coming back, including junior Blake Moran.

Top teams

Adrian has made the rise to the top of the SEC White and have more than Bruggeman returning with seniors Joelden Griffin, Solomon Hiatt and Gary Kemerer all back to lead the Maples.

Tecumseh will be looking to knock off Adrian with many returners of its' own including juniors Rocco Williams and Connor Bullinger and seniors Tyler Clement and Ramiro Perez.

The LCAA is always tough, but this season will be no different with Blissfield and Onsted as the top two, but Clinton, Hudson and Madison are all looking to have a turnaround seasons.

In the TCC, Sand Creek will be in the mix for the title with Wilkinson and seniors Reid Hulett, Jacob Kaufman and Dane Morrin leading the Aggies. However, Lenawee Christian ended the season strong last year with a district title and has senior Zane Cherfan and junior Zyan Breznik back, along with a few others.
