Shefty say Giants are paying 10 million of his salary. We are falling further behind. :(

Pretty stupid to count on free agency to add talent when people argue that no one wanted to go to your franchise in year 1, and your record is just as bad in heading into year 2.

Right? .... aaand... if it were true...taking the decision away from the player by acquiring them through trade would be exactly the move to counter that.

Seattle is paying more in draft capital (2 & 5) for the salary offset - the cost of acquisition and him being in the last year of his deal are concerns - I think he can be a nice piece for them though

He's also 29

We need defensive linemen worse than any other team so yes we could have used him. I am always for adding and keeping talent not letting it go or not acquiring any. Next season will show us if Monti is worth anything. If he screws the pooch again he should be fired.

Have to give the Hags credit. I thought they were toast after Wilson and the core of that D was gone. They stay competitive and now lead the division.

Honestly, funny know if it would have been a great move for AZ - would you be able to get him to commit to resigning? Basically pay FA cost and draft capital when building - could be tough

Disagree. The idea is to build. We sat out FA. We have lots of draft picks. We have huge needs at some key positions. Always a good time to add.
You aren't building with pending free agents. You aren't building with Leonard Williams, an almost 30 year old with a nearly average pass rush win rate (13%) who faces the five least double teams at DT.

Its a dumb trade for the Seahawks.

If he re-signs, great move. If not, they paid a 2nd and 5th round pick for a rental.
Conceivably they could get a 3rd round comp picks though. But Williams hasnt been that good this season so the Giants go a lot for him.

They are in 1st place right now and are tied for the 2nd best record in the NFC. They are adding talent which is what teams who want to compete do. With Geno Smith.

This isn't betting on CMC. Williams has underachieved for awhile now. He plays next to a guy who commands near constant double teams and he produces average production.

Making trades to make a trade isn't smart, especially when 2nd round picks can net real contributors.

This is more Jamal Adams than Marshawn Lynch.

i think its a good trade for the remainder of the year

giving up a 2nd for a pending UFA puts real pressure on the FO to resign him afterwards.....

the other thing: Leonard Williams has had two teams in his first fours years trade him

I'd agree if Williams was better than Jarran Reed and Jones, their other DT, but he isn't.
