Let's say he gets 1 more sack this year he finishes with 9 sacks. how many 2nd round picks were going to get us 9 sacks and draw the attention he draws? He has holes, which is why they traded him, he forgets his assigment at times and gives up contain, he's a mixed bag on run defense for that reason but honestly until recently we're a very good run defense.

My take on today is simple, we're not making the playoffs, the defense has been carrying the offense all year and today we saw a beat up defense that knew the season was over and didn't play well. it happens, you wish it wouldn't but it happens.

Jones is a good player, if we let him walk we're going to struggle to replace him and will probably have to use a first round pick to do that. Guys like that get overpaid in the NFL, just how it is, pass rush is such a premium you overpay for it. Do I wish he had Golden's motor, absolutely, but he's a good enough player you have to keep him.

Yeah, I don't think anyone can blame Keim for the trade at the time since he believed we were SB-bound. With what has transpired and what Jones will command I'd rather have the 2nd rounder.

Then again with Keim's recent drafting......... Um, great trade!

Patriots and Cards are tied with 32 sacks btw. They're a machine over there in Foxboro.

9 sacks 3 forced fumbles not bad you also have to remember he draws a lot of attention out there.

This made me laugh.

Keim has had some really good draft picks, (although the DJ pick is looking more and more like dumb luck after the lions picked Abdullah) but anyways, this has got to be his 1 and only get out of jail free card. You cant have a draft as ineffectual as this one two years in a row, and it would be nice if we could get something, anything out of a first round pick.

Honest question:

Would you rather have Calais Campbell for (let's say) $13mm a year + a free agent to fill a hole at $7mm

Or

Chandler Jones for $20mm a year.

I'm not sure right now, even recognizing that part of CCs game has been helped by Jones

Jones is 26 and with a better D scheme could be great for years to come! It's easier to find interior DL than a Chandler Jones sorry. If Campbell doesn't want a fortune we could keep both, but I think he will price himself right out of AZ. We have to keep the younger guy that has years left over an up and down Campbell at the twilight of his career. Pass Rushers of Jones ability are much harder to find IMO

This is a false choice. No reason you can't have both.

Yup. It'll probably cost you one of Tony Jefferson and D.J. Swearinger, maybe both, but it's fine.

This is where I am at. There is no reason the Cards can't re-sign both Chandler Jones AND Calais Campbell if they want to. We may have less depth because of it, but a defense of Campbell, Jones, Golden, Peterson and Mathieu should be enough if the offense and special teams can be fixed.

Yup. If we're not going to spend money on the middle of our defense, then let's keep our exterior guys together.

I get that we drafted Nkemdiche to replace CC. But man, I just get sick at the thought we may stick to the plan while CC continues to play at a high level and Nkem cant get out of a practice session injury free.

I guess it's working out for Humphries (sit and forget year 1), and they do get to watch Nkem in practice, so they have some idea of what we've really got; but, I really don't like the way this is trending.

Go Cards!!!

I dont understand this post. The obvious message seems to be "The Patriots trade away bad players for high draft picks"

......

but whos to say those are bad players?

Chandler Jones for a 2nd? Great player. 100% worth it.
Jamie Collins for a 3rd? Great player. 100% worth it.
Aquib Talib for a 3rd? Great player. 100% worth it.

I cant speak for those other players, but from these 3 above, I see no problem with those trades. Each team got a high value asset.

The Pats traded a 4th FOR Talib and a 7th. He left the Pats as a free agent. The OP's statement is true. Good deal for the Pats.

Asa I stated earlier. The Pats traded FOR Talib. They gave up a 4th for Talib and a 7th. Good trade for the Pats. Talib left the Pats as a Free agent. We will see how the Collins and Jones trades work out but right now the Chandler Jones trade looks pretty good for the Pats if you go by what their fans think. Jones for starting OG rookie Thuney, rookie WR Mitchell, OG Jonathan Cooper who they lost on waivers to the Browns, and a bunch of cap room. With some of the cap room, they signed DE Chris Long to partially replace Jones. (along with Trey Flowers who has 7 sacks while making less than 1/12th of what Jones is making)

I'm thinking Jefferson's price has skyrocketed. I've heard $6 million a year. The speculation is Campbell's price is way up too. Surprisingly the outlook on Swearinger so far isn't as bad because he doesn't blitz or cover as well as Jefferson. I predicted a good year for Campbell because of the Jones signing. He's made everyone on that line look better. He's also helped Golden's play. He's a must retain. I think many Cards' fans are in for a rude awakening when free agency starts. There's less money than people think if Palmer & Fitz return. The cost of their free agents is way up there. Despite the results this season their talent is highly valued.

I love CC. He is my wife's favorite player and she has his jersey. However I just don't think it will be worth the price to keep him as he is going to get a ton of cash thrown at him in FA. CC is 30 and his skills will be declining in a few years. So you will basically be over paying him for 2 more years of good service.

On the other hand re-Signing Chandler Jones is a must in my book. He is entering the prime of his career at 26 years old and is a disruptive pass rusher. Keim hasn't had much luck finding a pass rusher like him in the draft in the past. So I go all out to keep Jones long term. He makes everyone on the DL better.
