Mark Grace! yeah it's all his fault the rest of this team can't hit beans!! The way I see it this "team" can't get 2 hits in the same inning & if they do they strand a guy on 3rd base. Grace has had 3 starts in a month & a half & he is a breath of fresh air coming out of a stench filled locker room! Maybe someone can tell the "would be" hitters on this team that Gonzo is not the only guy that can have RBI's he's willing to let some "other" guys have some. And don't even get me started on "our savior" Raul Mondesi Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!! :bigyawn:

I am so lost after reading this post. What are you trying to say? That Grace actually belongs on this team? Mondesi has more hits in 4 games here than Grace does in his last month. Sure, Grace hasn't played much, but he has done nothing to warrant more time. Hell, Overbay was better then Grace.

Maybe.

I hope so. After all, if the only credentials necessary for being a major league player is being a good teammate, maybe Mike Morgan and Lenny Harris would still have jobs. Hell, maybe the D-Backs should have Jerry Seinfeld play some middle infield so he can entertain and loosen the lockeroom. Do they keep a stat that shows how good a teammate is. Something like GTA (good teammate average) or UFP (uplifting feeling percentage). If so, Mark Grace's average would probably be higher than .197, but the sad fact is that those who believe Grace's roster spot isn't being kept for anything but business purposes are as naïve as they are stupid.

I say no to Jerry Seinfeld - he couldn't even carry Keith Hernandezs' jock.

I saw Mark Grace a bunch in the past few weeks and he's very charming & funny. Every club in baseball has at least one wasted roster spot so I don't think it was Grace's spot alone that was causing the problem.

However, when players like Danny Bautista & Tony Womack both came off the DL, Grace's spot became a problem in that it was one of many pieces of the logjam.

Slippery slope Steve. Just who determines who is the "best" teammate. Maybe Mike Morgan and Grace should have a tribal council vote on this ala "Survivor."

Call me old fashioned but I think every roster spot is important, but if you're going to give one away it should probably be for a pitcher in mop up situations. So score my vote for the "Mo-Man." If I subscribed to that ridiculous premise, that is.

 Steve -- are you OK???!!!

There is certainly something to be said for a good sense of humor, general courtesy and interest in teammates -- I gather he's been very good toward the young'uns - and, of course...the baby blues and gorgeous smile, which appeal to some of us more than others. :D I sort of hate to see Grace go to the Jaybell Emeritus Chair as the end to his playing career.

I also think the work he did to improve Lyle's defense should be noted - the guy can definitely teach. Btw - did you folks see that Hillenbrand is doing beaucoup extra defense work with E-Rod and Yount - at their suggestion - and says he's learning stuff no one bothered to teach him before. If we go from ham-handed to merely inadequate, that would be great! (tsk! tsk!);)

BUT...alas - it's a roster spot (40-man is relevant, too - that's likely keeping Chad Tracy at bay). I would certainly have sent Q packing first, but the glut is infielders, not outfielders. I think that's mainly why Robby is up - he was JUST barely on the edge of turning his hitting around, so it wasn't that - it's the ability to catch, and also play outfield (or infield, like we needed another one right now!) because if it was just hitting and defense, Lyle would be here instead.

Like I posted on a different post. I see alot of changes for next year. Grace I think is one of them. At least as a player. I say drop Bautista in RF. There are rumors that Mantai could possibly be on the trading block. I don't like that because he has been the killerbee since coming back from injury. But with V pitching well in his absense it maybe a viable cheaper route. Should be interesting. The question though... Do we Keep Schill and Johnson?
