With the cap likely going up and us only spending $85M last year we have some room to go on a little shopping spree.

1. QB - I like Kolb because of his age. I don't think Fitz would be stoked to reup for four yearsw for a 35+ QB unless his name was Warner so Hasselback, Bulger, McNabb & CO don't help us extend him the way a 26 yearold Kolb would. Palmer might because even though he is 31 he has game left and might flourish with a new lease on life like Kurt did. So its Kolb for me as long as the price has become more reasonable and Palmer after that. Next year looks to be a deep QB class and with so many high picks going to QB this year if we do take a bridge QB we would need to draft a QB nest year.

2. OL help. Need to lock up Deuce and Sendlein and get one more year of insurance out of Faneca. Need to nab atleast two UFA to contribute this year. Need to nab atleast two UFA to contribute this year - Light, Free, Gaither. Clabo or Colon could work but Free would be the best given his age. We also need a couple UDFA gems to develop and restock the cupboards.

3. Need a strong runblocking TE or a tweener OLmen to serve in that capacity if we really want to run the ball. Boss would give us that but Lewis or Zach Miller would give our new QB a serious weapon.

4. Should reup Breston to lock down the position with Fitz and Roberts and let Komar, Williams and UDFA Jeff Maehl fight it out for depth. Ducet will probably be expendable as an FA prone to injury.

5. Safety could use some depth here with Ware as a FA and Adub getting up there in age.

6. Bring in a vet at ILB to provide some experience as well as a handfull of others to compete for special teams. Would Spikes help?

7. DL Re-sign Branch and Kenny Iwebema. Who can we add here?

Fitz has already listed Bulger as one of the QB's he would be happy with. I hope we do draft a QB next year unless Skelton shows to be the man. How he does that I'm not sure of.

Based on K9's FA thread and RG's interview with Gambo and Ash I think at best we sign 1 FA O-lineman. The money will be spent to re-sign Duece and Sendlein.

3. Need a strong runblocking TE or a tweener OLmen to serve in that capacity if we really want to run the ball. Boss would give us that but Lewis or Zach Miller would give our new QB a serious weapon.

It would be great to upgrade the TE position more.

I do want Stevie B back but for how much and how is his knee?

I'm fine going UDFA at this point for Safety depth.

6. Bring in a vet at ILB to provide some experience as well as a handfull of others to compete for special teams. Would Spikes help?

YEP, YEP and YEP. Gotta get a SILB in FA IMO.

I don't know that we re-sign both. We need a NT added for depth/rotation. I doubt Watson is re-signed. It's a numbers thing and since we drafted a DL in the draft we should be mindful of how much we invest further in the Dline. If we want to re-sign CC then we can't afford to throw a lot of money at an UFA.

Wish lists are tricky, because expecting to land specific players has got a needle-in-haystack aspect to it. We really have to better know (a) who's in play, (b) what our needs are and (c) are we serious about a specific player. And (d) how much total money are we talking about?

With regard to Kolb - he's never shown me anything to make me jump up and say "Wowie!" Perhaps he'd be nice if we wanted try and get by with a little bit of veteran stability and ballast; but not for what Reid is said to be asking for him.

Another way to describe Kolb might be: "High floor, but low ceiling."

Here's what I'd like to see:
OL - Resign Lutui & Sendlein (If Lutui leaves I'm going off!). I think Faneca is gone. We have Hadnot & Bridges waiting in the wings. I'd say bring in another UFA for the shortterm. My hope is we get a left OT next year and eventually bump Levi to OG.

QB - We have plenty of money to spend but I'm not crazy about giving draft picks for any of the guys available. Maybe a 3rd for Palmer, but he hasn't been the same since his injury. I'm ok with Bulger/Hasselbeck, but not high on either. Especially behind our OL.

WR - Something weird is up with Breaston, coaches seem down on him. I hope he bounces back and we re-sign him. If we do that, I think we're set here.

TE - I'd say sign one of our UFA's (Patrick or Spach) and we're good to go with UFA/Housler/Dray.

DT - We need somebody behind Dan Williams, and our coaches don't seem to have any faith in Watson. He's as good as gone. This is where I'd spend some money. Maybe the other Williams from Minnesota, a solid vet to mentor big Dan. I'd also like to see us pick up UDFA Ian Williams from Notre Dame. The elder Williams could mentor the two young guns next year and it could be a Williams family reunion!

DE - We should re-sign Alan Branch. He's a good rotational guy.

LB - I'd assume Porter and Hayes are gone. We have some young prospects that better be ready. We do need some veteren help and leadership. I have no idea who is available as a UFA. I'm thinking we're ok at SOLB with Haggans/W. Davis /Acho. We need help at WOLB as I think Schofield is our only guy. At WILB, I think it's just Washington (with Lenon backing up). AT SILB it's Lenon (with maybe Haggans backing up?). I'm not sure where the new Quan fits in as a back up.

S - Unless there are special teams considerations, I'd just sign one of our UFA's (Ware/Abdullah) for sure.

As I see it, the essential outside UFA's we need are a starting QB, rotational NT and a rotational WOLB.
We also need to resign Lutui, Sendlein, Branch & Breaston.
For the other postions, if there are players who can help, as that raccoon dude always said: bring 'em in, can't hurt.
