If Arizona stays at number 5 in the draft we will likely choose between Adams, Anderson, Branch, or Landry. Those would all be good picks, but let's look at free agency combined with the draft.
For argument's sake, the Cardinals sign the following free agents:
Al Johnson-c/og (signed)
Mike Gandy-ot/og (negotiating)
Rod Hood-cb (favorable visit)
Travis Fisher-cb (favorable visit)
Reggie Kelly-te (favorable visit)
Vonta Leach-fb (restricted fa extended offer sheet)
All six of the above free agents sign with the Cards (a free agent draft class). Each of those six will be a starter or productive contributor to the team. The one area the Cardinals need attention is a "SAM" LB. The best available is Lance Briggs of Chicago. Briggs is a complete player who can play the pass, run, and get after the QB if needed. His addition would allow Dansby to move to the "WILL" position with Hayes at "MIKE."
The Cardinals could offer their number 1 (5th overall) to the Bears for Briggs, their number 1 (31st overall) and a mid-round choice (4th or 5th rounder). This would allow the Cardinals to take an interior lineman at the bottom of round 1 (i.e.-Kalil, Staley, or Grubbs). Then with their high second rounder they could go defense and take a pass rusher (i.e.-Spencer, Crowder, Johnson, or Abiamiri) or maybe a safety (i.e.-Griffin, Meriweather, or Weddle). Briggs would bring more value to the Cards than the group of Adams, Anderson, Branch, and Landry. Arizona could take another OL in round three.
Possible Draft:
1. Ryan Kalil c/og 6'2 296 USC
2. Eric Weddle fs 5'11 205 Utah
3. Brian Robison de 6'3 260 Texas
4. Marshall Yanda ot 6'4 315 Iowa
4. Kenny Scott cb 6'0 185 Georgia Tech
5. Jon Abbate ilb 5'9 231 Wake Forest
6. traded to New England
7. Syndric Steptoe wr/kr 5'8 194 Arizona
