If there is ANY chance of having him for the last four weeks or so of the season, I say pull him back for week one. Only 46 players are active anyway, and the risk of losing the 53rd player who would have on the roster to another team is a risk I'm willing to take. And I'm not a big Levi fan.

Isn't there a change to the IR rules this year? I thought I saw something on the ESPN scroll about being able to bring a guy back from IR now.

Yes. We can bring him back but he has to occupy one of the 53 active spots for the first game. Then he can go to ir until week 8 or 12 I think.

A tricep injury (with bone tear) for an offensive lineman is especially tough---not sure it's realistic to think he could play again this year or be effective if he did.

Cardschatter says the are considering using the new IR rule on Levi as they work down to 53.

One point of confusion was the local comment that you could place more than one guy on IR and then bring some or all back by Week 7.

But another comment advised that it could apply to one player only.

Then I saw that at least one team is putting more than one player on the PUP list so they could be eligible to be recalled midway thru the regular season.

Anyone know what the actual deal is?

Regarding Levi - I wouldn't want to tie my hands with a premature decision until I knew (1) who else was out there, (2) how our own guys were doing or (3) if it was a one-player-only deal, if there might be someone else who was injured that we might want back more than Levi.

PUP is not IR.

You can only 'designate one specific player' for a possible return. All otheres under IR are out for the season.

Spot on Mitch...too many hand battles in the trenches & quite possibly injuring him again, short term or long term. But this is our beloved Redbirds & they usually do what they shouldn't do.

We'll know within an hour or so. If they take advantage of the IR rule it's because 'real' doctors and the rehab staff believe it's possible.
