when we moved I bought a 47 inch LG smart tv to replace my 160 pound behemoth Panasonic tv. I love the new tv but had a few questions on the Smart tv portion.

There is no built in App for Amazon, I assumed I could just use the browser to get to Amazon Prime and play free movies, I can get there, but they won't play. I'm assuming this is intentional? I googled it and found an addon device similar to a Roku, that LG makes that will get Amazon etc, seems nuts why have a Smart tv that blocks certain sites unless you pay to get an addon? I got around it by just hooking an HDMI cable from my girlfriends Laptop to the tv and playing movies off the laptop but seems kind of silly.

On the 3D. we tried it out last night, glasses on watching free preview trailers of "Up" and "Toy Story 3", looks really good. We did look at a 3rd trailer that was a bit blurry(blanking on which one) but otherwise impressive. All the built in 3D movies are pay to view and they all seem to be kids movies, was curious where else can I get 3D movies? I know Comcast has a 3D channel but I don't subscribe and I don't currently subscribe to Netflix and probably don't want to.

Here is a list of LG Smart TV's that have Amazon Prime.

http://www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/discoverlgtvs/smarttv_partnergrid/popup/amazon.html

I am guessing the reason for the browser not working with it is that the browser is a LG browser that does not support flash.

In my family room we have an older flat screen and have a Sony Blu Ray player that has Amazon along with Netflix. That Blu Ray only cost me $50, although after checking Sony and Best Buy, they do not sell that one anymore. It does look like Best Buy has one for $70.

Thanks, from that list the BD-670 seems to be the only one still readily available new.

The box at the bottom of that list was the Roku like box I mentioned before but that doesn't seem to make sense. I don't own a blue ray player or any blue rays though so maybe that box would make some sense for me although it's not going to get me anything in 3D. I'm still not convinced 3D is more than a fad for TV, I didn't buy it for that it just had a great deal and a great picture so I bought it.

thanks for the link that's useful info.

I LOVE roku, they are friggin awesome. fyi.

Yeah I have been meaning to buy one for awhile but I figured getting a Smart tv would bypass the need for one, but apparently not.

I have Amazon Prime but I don't have Netflix or Hulu etc so all the apps that came with the TV I have to register and pay for to use, and the one I'm already registered and paying for, doesn't work. But it does work with the HDMI cable connected to a laptop so might just do that for now.

I would add, I was quite impressed wtih the little bit of 3D I watched, I just think it's a case of they need much more content to make it viable. Right now it's a fad because there's not that many movies available at least not that I found easily.

Thanks Roku is on my wish list but I gotta buy air conditioning first.

I did solve my other issue with the tv. You'd be watching and then suddenly the picture would go darker, visibly darker. I recalled when readign reviews before buying the tv someone had mentioned the power saver mode so I went and checked and it was on. Apparently while watching the LED backlight will just go off to save power and that makes it darker. So I adjusted the setting and no more sudden dimming.

Love the TV, but yes a ROKU will be an addition I make once I've paid for the AC.

getting a new unit on the house? Im hoping my 30 yr old unit makes it through the year and then my heater is done so this fall trying to do a new AC/heater combo on the roof. Got two quotes at about 6500 to remove the old heater and ac unit and put a new combo unit on the roof.

We moved and the new house has a heater/blower but no AC. It's not as hot in the Bay area as it is in Arizona of course but hot enough so we're installing AC.

So stretching my dollar for the next few weeks/months to pay for that.
