Don't worry Liberty fans, Breanna Stewart isn't going anywhere.
New York announced Saturday they've re-signed the two-time WNBA MVP to a new contract after she helped capture the franchise's first championship in 2024. It's a one-year guaranteed deal for $208,400, according to the NY Post's Madeline Kenney.
Since being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft out of UConn, Stewart, 30, has become one of the most decorated players in league history, winning three WNBA titles (two with the Seattle Storm), two MVPs, and two WNBA Finals MVPs while earning six All-Star nominations, six All-WNBA First Team honors, and six All-Defensive Team selections. She is also the fastest 5,000-point scorer in WNBA history.
Stewart joined the Liberty in 2023 after playing the first six years of her career in Seattle. Through two seasons with New York, the forward has averaged 21.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game over 78 games.
“Bringing Stewie back to the Liberty was our top priority this offseason,” GM Jonathan Kolb said in a statement. “Her impact on and off the court is immeasurable—she’s not only one of the best and most accomplished players in the world, but a leader whose relentless drive is foundational to the standard we continue to build upon in New York.”
Stewart recently underwent a minor scope on her right meniscus on March 13 and is expected to be back for training camp, which begins April 27.
The Liberty begin their 2025 regular season at home on May 17 against the Las Vegas Aces.
