This has been slowly evolving technology that I have previously invested in. I bought a SATA DVD-R drive with the lastest incarnation of Lightscribe and I must say it still kinda sucks, but they have really come a long way.

This site has pre-encoded covers for most movies. I burn the movies I get from Netflix and have started using the Lightscribe disks

http://www.lightscribecovers.com/

The disks are more expensive but worth it, I have custom covers instead of Sharpie

Better than LightScribe

I also used to use Light Scribe to label my CDs but I found a better way. It is a new disc printer called the DiscPainter. Unlike the LS it prints in full color up to 1200dpi! It also only takes 1-3 minutes to make a label rather than the Light Scribe's 20-30 minutes. I think it is the best way to label CDs and DVDs out there. Go Cats!

If it weren't for the "Go Cats!" I'd guess Jimmy was a computer. Because of that addition I'd guess he is somehow connected with DiscPainter. I don't have a smoking gun, but his post reads just like an advertisement.

I found this post on another message board (poster=RexRex):
I am not a big fan of LightScribe. It is too slow and it only prints in monochrome. Do yourself a favor and get a disc label printer that prints in vivid color and is very fast. I use such a printer and it is called the DiscPainter. It prints full color labels right on the disc in 3 minutes @1200 dpi. Much faster than the 20 minutes for the LightScribe. There is a video of it on youtube if you want to see how it works.
It's similar enough to raise suspicion.

Identification Report for Jimmy's IP address
Jimmy's computer has been found. It is probably located in or around Reston, VA, USA as this is where the organization or individual who manages the system is located.

Interestingly enough, the company that makes the DiscPainter is Dymo. Dymo is owned by Newell Rubbermaid. If you search google you'll find that there are various marketing positions for Newell Rubbermaid available in the Winchester, VA area.

I believe the facts of record amount to a prima facie case that Jimmy works in marketing for Dymo. The ball's in your court, Jimmy.

Oh, I thought "spam" the second I read it, too.

Jimmy needs to be more subtle. But I'm guessing he won't be back.

FYI for people that locate this thread via google.

Atrociously overpriced for what it delivers, which is little more than normal direct-print inkjets!, November 24, 2007
By Zeo (USA) - See all my reviews
This is quite frankly a complete ripoff of a product. It takes a long time to print a full disc (2 minutes), costs a TON, with expensive ink refills, and achieves roughly the same results as any normal printer such as my Epson R280 did for under a third of the price, plus the normal printer does other printing jobs. This product is useless... if you need a small footprint, get a dedicated CD duplicator/printer. There's nothing this product does but eat your wallet alive.

The most disappointing product of the year!, March 1, 2008
By Gary Lazar "Gary1225" (Warren, MI United States) -
The DiscPainter takes a novel approach to the old problem of labeling cd's and dvd's - it spins the disc and applies the ink one thin circle at a time directly onto printable media while it's spinning. The good news is that the printing is fast and the better news is that the drying time is REALLY fast. The bad news is it looks terrible. There is a tiny white space in between each line of printed ink. If you hold the disc far enough way from your eyes, it is almost imperceptible. If you look at the disc from a normal distance or take a close look, you can see the spaces. In addition, the ink looks dull - it lacks vibrancy. I made a backup copy of a dvd that I specifically chose because of it's colorful picture. I scanned it at 600 dpi and printed one copy on an Epson R220 and one on the DiscPainter. It looked crisp and bright on the Epson and all of the tiny writing was legible. On the DiscPainter, the colors looked washed out and the writing was sort of legible, but only with a magnifying glass. The white spaces in between the circles of ink were annoying at best. I tried printing 3 different labels and used different settings to try to get the best results and could not get a satisfactory print job on the DiscPainter. I spoke to a representative at Dymo who informed me that the white spaces on the disc were normal and inherent in the way the DiscPainter printed in its circular fashion. I sent my DiscPainter back for a refund. If you need a professional looking disc, this is NOT the printer for you. I'm not crazy about the mechanical problems I have with the Epson R220, but at least the finished product is professional looking. Discs printed on the DiscPainter look like they were done by an amateur. Even if the DiscPainter was not outrageously priced, I wouldn't use one. Dymo needs to take their great idea of circular printing and go back to the drawing board to eliminate the white spaces and to design an ink cartridge with brighter ink that has at least 6 colors instead of the 3 color cartridge they use now. If they solved these problems, I'd give the DiscPainter another go round. Dymo 1738260 DiscPainter CD/DVD Color Printer

Has anyone in the history of time, ever bought a product they learned about from a Spam Bot? Seriously, why do they waste all that time and effort. I would never purchase a product I heard about from a company that uses those type of tactics.

I just think that the are, what they are. I don't know if I would ever buy something because of it, but now I know the product exists. That has to mean something to the company.

Apparently yes, people do.

The hit rate is unbelievably low but then so is their cost as they mostly use bot nets to send them out.
