I am one of the few that I know of, that is perfectly fine with Acho, and Schofield as our main pass rushers at OLB.

I like Washington, Lenon, and Bradley* as our ILBers, and Walker is in the mix, too.

I think Clark Haggans would be a fine addition, and complement the core well. Then take into account that Bradley can play a little OLB, and I think we are fine at LB'er.

This defense has A LOT of promise this season.

Just a small wild card here but we also don't know what the team thinks about Quan Sturdivant last years 6th rounder who was on the PS all last year. Was he able to make the adjustments the team was looking for???

yup. We should get Haggans back for this year. Rotate him in for Scho and Acho so they can stay fresh. Hopefully our offense can hold onto the ball longer so they can rest as well

Agreed. I am also intrigued by Antonio Coleman at OLB.

I still feel like we are not talking about something that the coaches have said since they signed the guy...Stewart Bradley was signed to play both Inside AND Outside backer for us. I have heard more than one coach say on more than one occasion that they like what Stewart Bradley can do from both areas. If that's true, and we resign a guy like Haggans or another OLB, and our depth is perfectly fine. I agree with you. Schofield and Acho are not as bad as what is to be the norm belief out there.

I'm not crazy about the depth/rotation, but I'm okay with Achi and Scho as the starters. I hope they bring Haggans back for another season and I would imagine they'll sign a camp casualty also.

I am more than a little worried about the OLB position, especially if our most productive LB gets hurt.

Our defense will be limited by our inability to generate a consistent pass rush with 4 rushers, and we will continue to see teams pinch down on Campbell and Dockett. Poor free agent and draft class at OLB, but we still crapped the bed on this one. I'm sure we will re-sign Haggens, but he is average at best.

I expect the Cardinals to try and snag an OLB or two when teams try and sneak players onto their practice squads.

joeshmo,

As I project our 53 man roster, I don't see room for Sturdivant...I think he's bound for the PS again.

Our two biggest struggles as a team in 2012 will be consistency from the QB position and an inability to generate pressure on the QB without blitzing. How much does it hurt this team? I don't know but we will really miss not adding as pass rusher in the draft if our QBs fail to get the ball to Floyd.

Given the coachespeak that players make the largest improvement from year one to year two how much better at bringing pressure will Acho be this fall? And if they move him over to Haggans spot how will that change how Horton uses him as a pass rusher?

I could see Acho develop as an OLB and not see an increase in sacks or pressures. My big owrry is outside of Acho, who do we have? Schofield couldn't learn the playbook well enough last year, and the other two OLBers on the roster were practice squad guys I think.

I believe being able to consistently put pressure on a QB without blitzing is something that makes good defenses great, and I don't see us being abl to do this.

We gave up 17 points per game over the last half of the season and were fifth in sacks. We have, arguably, the two best pressure 3-4 D-ends in football and in a 3-4 you're always sending something extra... from where is the question. Acho had 7 sacks in half a season and Schofield has a year under the new scheme and a training camp to come. I have a hard time imagining regression.

I was under the impression that part of the 3-4 defense was that the offense didn't know where the 4th rusher was coming from. But it seems to me that the Cards run it almost like a 4-3 with the 3 LBs shifted to the left side of the defense. So our 4th rusher is usually the ROLB like a DE in a 4-3 but standing up most of the time and the LOLB spends more time defending the run and the TE or RB in pass situations.

I'm not certain on this it just looked like in watching some replays and in listening to people talk about getting a pass rusher its usually a guy for the ROLB spot.

But with Horton in town who knows what alignments the Cards will be running and which players will be assigned to do what.

We have two legitimate LBs in Washington and Acho and a bunch of question marks. Essentially, we are one injury away from disaster.
