Here in Europe everybody is playing, even country hitted hard with Covid, no a single player decided to opt out, but Americans are always first in something
We have hundreds of African or half African players

I have a feeling we'll end up getting one bonafide superstar that opts out and puts this whole thing on its head. (By "we," I don't necessarily mean the Cardinals, just the NFL as a whole.)

Imagine if say, Russell Wilson, decided not to play. A lot of players might follow.

NFL future betting is nonsense right now. No preseason, players opting out, anyone can get the virus and miss a couple weeks.

And I seriously think pat P may do it. Contract aside...... his situation at home is a bit different than most.

I don’t know. The hospital I work for had about 0.8% antibody positive results after months of patients. When you’re trained to use PPE and all the other mitigation measures you’re probably better off than John Doe.

Can't see why 'who' opts would effect anyone's personal decision.

ok fine

if this doesnt slow down its going to be a terrible season.

The patriots lost two starters on defense today. thats a big deal going into a competitive professional sport with starting players opting out.

the fact that I will be happy to go play safety for them instead doesnt make for a good product or competitive balance.

I disagree. Unless a significant amount of premier players, such as Mahomes, Wilson, et al decide to leave, there wont be an issue w/ talent barring a gigantic spike in COVID cases. So far, we've had at best one or two above average players opt out

It changes the stakes for some. If a major player is willing to give up so much money, it could make others take things more seriously.

I would also argue that it might change how much said team wants to play. If you're on the fence and your starring QB opts out, functionally tanking the season, how much are you going to want to play, knowing it's over?

Doubt any player cares what some other guy leaves on the table, They have their own bills to pay.

Can someone please explain this to me? An olineman tweeted it out earlier...
“The reason a lot of players are opting out (besides health reasons) is if you have a lot of guaranteed money this year and the season is cancelled, they risk losing a lot of money”

This is a money grab fiasco... cancel the damn season and if this turns out to be the status quo of our existence, then you push the envelope and carry on next season in my opinion

Because you would only get paid a pro rated salary but your contract would count down 1.

I wouldn’t bet any game this year. It would be like betting during the ‘87 strike season with scabs galore on certain teams & others at almost full capacity.

Yep the excuse is already there! I told my wife this 2 weeks ago. Plus he might be a free agent without even playing a down.

The problem is BMI does not equate for super athletes. I remember a study long ago that said most of the NFL is "obese" including running backs and etc when the reality is that they are clearly not obese and simply weigh more than they should because they are loaded with muscle. BMI says I should lose 40 pounds and at that point I would be unhealthily skinny with my ribs showing. "proper BMI rating" for a 6'5 man is 156 to 205 pounds. at 156 I would be dead. at 205 my ribs would show. at 246, which is a range for a lot of football players near my height, they are all considered overweight to obese. I guarantee at 237 I am far more overweight than they are.
I remember when in nursing school we had a psychiatric patient that BMI said was overweight she was 54lbs does that tell ya something bout all medical averages they group Thousands and Thousands of people together then come up with a average
Just like in my 20 years of nursing you could count the number of 98.6 degree temperatures on one hand that I took

your confusing “ excuse” for “reason”

If he does opt out I get it. They say people with diabetes are much more vulnerable and that this can mess up your lungs for life. Even if it effects his breathing just a little but that really effects him as a pro athlete.

This is a gross exaggeration. You’re talking on average when all is said and done 1 starter per team. Prob the same amount of people that would have been injured during training camp and pre season games.

He’s posted a bunch of stuff recently motivated. I doubt he’d be training and posting motivation for the season if he was gonna opt out.

He has diabetes so I get it but doesn’t seem like it as he’s just arrived to Arizona

Premier players are far less likely to opt out imo as it will affect hof chances and I think pat p will stick it out because of his age and upcoming contract. Adding another year to his age before he hits the market will hurt his market value.

My thought is mid-level players with a large dead-cap hit this year and a lighter hit next year may want to extend that contract by putting a pause on this year. Especially with a highly likely cap drop next offseason.

family men, who might not be a premium player but are making an above average salary would check all the right boxes.

Pugh fits that bill to a tee IMO. 9.7mm dead cap this year but only 4mm dead money next year.

With the cap dropping (most likely) to 175mm, it would be much harder to cut a guy with a 10mm dead cap hit versus a 4mm dead cap hit.

He would then have three years left on the deal when he returns for his age 31 year.

It kind of makes sense in some aspects.
