Little tidbit picked up from ESPN's boradcast last night.

I think Kobe coming here is very possible.

Last night i found out something interesting. Kobe wears number 8 because of Mike D'Antoni. Kobe idealized him when he grew up in Europe.

Maybe this is why he is our head coach now. It is all JC's plan to get Kobe.

Hopefully we get Kobe. But i cant help but think that the suns will be a big player for him due to Mike D'Antoni.

Don't get your hopes up. The Suns won't get Kobe because they only have about 7 milliion per year to offer him. (unless something drastic happens to clear up more money). It will take about 14 million to be able to even be close to what the Lakers will offer him. I don't think that Kobe is going to give up 7 million per year just to play for Mike D.

I always thought the "Kobe wearing #8" thing was an urban legend. And since it was confirmed by George Karl, I guess it still is.

Didn't BIM confirm that it was somewhat of an urban legend?

IIRC, he said that Kobe wears number 8 because he was #143 in the Nike high school camp or something like that so he added the numbers up. Also something about him wanting a different number than all the great players (IE #23).

Im sure it's in one of the various Kobe threads below...

Most players wear a particular number because that is the number they started with or something like that. Whenever a guys changes teams, he usually asks for his old number if it is available.

It is not out of the question that Kobe started wearing 8 when he was very young. Who knows, maybe he picked it because D'Antoni wore it. But after that, I would expect he wore it because that was the number he always wore.

Yeah, I remember that, but I have a hard time thinking that he'd come up with something so complicated.

Kobe opted out of his contract to test leaving for another team. HE GAVE UP MONEY to test the waters.

He knows he wont make as much on another team, so I am willing to bet the Suns will beable to offer him a close amount.


I dont see KOBE in a Suns uni next year, but I do think if the C's wanna go after him they can get real close to getting him...
