Don't expect LIV golfers to get a spot via exemption in the Masters anytime soon.
Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley met with the media Wednesday morning ahead of the Par 3 Contest, and he was asked whether the Masters would follow the USGA and R&A in offering spots via exemption to top golfers on LIV Golf based on the season-long standings. That's not happening any time soon, Ridley said.
Ridley pointed out concerns with LIV's team element, which is a common thread among many in golf's governing bodies. Additionally, ANGC was named in a lawsuit back in 2022 that LIV golfers filed in an antitrust case.
There are 12 golfers from LIV in the 2025 Masters, including seven past champions. Joaquin Niemann received a special exemption into the field for the second straight year.
And based on Ridley's comments, if a golfer on LIV can't play their way into the field at Augusta National, that's the only way someone will be able to play in the Masters.
