Hey guys,

Most of you know I run an entertainment blog (because I pathetically pimp it all the time, like right now) called PopCritics.com.

I have a press pass to Comic-Con this year and I'll be there Friday and Saturday covering as much stuff as I can. I'm attending panels for Lost, BSG, Fringe, Terminator Salvation, Chuck, DC Universe Online and a bunch of other stuff.

Anyways, I wanted to let you guys know about it because I'll be doing LIVE blogging sessions for Lost and BSG on Saturday. At least, that's the plan.

In a few hours on www.popcritics.com, you'll see some posts talking about it. Should be fun to hear what the guys with these shows have to say, and then relay it on to you all.

Just wanted to give you a heads up :)

Cool. I know you'll be busy with the TV and movie stuff...but see if you can sniff out some of the bigger comic book stuff coming up, too.

I'll be tuning in regardless. Thanks!

Oh I definitely will be trying to get to everything, but with only two days, ugh.

We do cover a lot of comic book stuff over there because I'm suddenly addicted to it big time. Got the War Heroes #1 review out shortly and I read the new X-Files last night.

But this DC Universe Online is going to be cool...I'm getting a big demo of it from the creators of the game, and it's going to be like any of the big World of Warcraft, Ultima Online type games.

What comic book stuff would you want me to check out?

I don't really keep my eye on the stuff that's coming much past a week or two, so I don't know.

Are you just reading non-superhero stuff, or is your geek going all in?

I'm all in pretty much :)

My wife bought me Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns for Christmas and it's been downhill ever since.

I've read Batman: Yeah One, Rex Mundi, Civil War, the death of Captain America, Wanted, 30 Days of Night, Kingdom Come and tons of other graphic novels.

I just got my first box at Atomic Comics a few weeks ago. I'm reading the Batman R.I.P. series from Grant Morrison too, which includes like 2-3 other series as well, lol.

I'm nuts...

Some recommendations:

Fables
Invincible
Preacher (only if you can take anti-establishment religious stories)
Spider-Man: Blue
Batman: The Long Halloween

You should be able to find all of those in trade pretty easily.

Also, I can't recommend enough the "Jokers Asylum: Penguin" that should still be on the rack from 2 weeks ago. It's written by Jason Aaron who writes "Scalped," (which I hear is very, very good. It's my next trade paperback purchase).

Batman RIP is confusing as hell so far, but Morrison generally has a way of making it all come together in the end. But the journey is often a strange one.

No kidding about Batman RIP, especially if you are like me and haven't kept up on what is going on...ALL of it is new to me.

I've heard good things about The Long Halloween too, and Asylum.

I'm also reading Nova for a friend who also loves it, and am picking up Solomon Kane when it comes out in September.

I also hear "MI:13 and Captain Brittan" is really, really good. I'll be picking that up in trades soon, too.

Solomon Kane is coming out in comics? Cool. Awesome character by Robert Howard, creator of Conan and Kull. James Purefoy is originating the role in film this year, I believe.

Just getting the blank internet explorer cannot open this page response. I'll try to navigate the site directly. Trust me, if it's working for you, it's probably something to do with my crappy computer.

I'm a big fan of Ultimate Spider-Man, which hasn't been mentioned yet.

ASFN Solomon Kane thread

Looking forward to it (the movie and the comics). Love Robert E. Howard's stuff.

Yeah, I had already posted in it :D

Btw, that popcritics did open for me. AWESOME stuff! Is it going to be a comic or a graphic novel? I prefer the latter but I really don't get into either. I'll have to make an exception.

I don't think it's as enjoyable sing Bagley left (and ironically, he sucks on Trinity).

In fact, I recently culled my pull list down to about a dozen, and took all of the Ultimate titles off. It's not that I don't like them, I do. But I wanted to reduce what I was spending on comics, so the normal titles won out.

Which makes sense, the prices are pretty crazy.

As far as Bagley? Well... in full disclosure, I don't really care for Bagley, not even on his original Amazing stint waaay back when. I respect his ability and have gotten used to it, but he was never an amazing artist in my mind. Solid and competent for sure, but lacking that certain something.

Also, since we're talking Ultimate Spidey, sometimes it's a nightmare figuring out if I need to be reading one page down or two pages across.

lol. Yeah, that's a problem that cropping (no pun intended) up more and more, IMO. The artists are getting too fancy for their own good.

I thought he was perfect for USM. On anything else I think his stuff just looks stupid.

:notworthy

I love these conventions. I saw the premier of Toxic Avenger 4 at one and Lloyd Kaufman presented it and later hosted a "how to make your own movie" class. Really cool guy. He also brought some super hot half-naked Troma girls with him. *sigh* I want to go to another convention.
