The Doug & Wolfe show this morning (Thursday)had Mike Lombardi on as their guest. They asked him about the destination of each available qb and here are his answers:

Kyle Orton - felt that he would stay in Denver.

Hassellbeck - would resign with Seattle. Also could end up in Tennessee.

Palmer - will be retired. Mike Brown will refuse to trade him.

Mark Bulger - will sign with Arizona. Whis wanted him last year and will go after and get him this year.

Kevin Kolb - felt that he would be traded to Cleveland. They are not set on McCoy and the GM at Cleveland (forgot his name) was at Philadelphia when they drafted Kolb. Also Reid and Holmgren know each other very well. Most important is that they have an extra round one draft choice next year from Atlanta in the big draft trade where the Falcons moved up to get WR Julio Jones. They will use it to get Kolb. Additionally Lombardi is not that high on Kolb. He doesn't like what he saw of him on tape.

McNab - felt he would end up with the Dolphins.

Alex Smith - will resign with the 49ers

I don't see how Lombardi can see so well into the future when constantly stuck in that HUGE shadow.

Good opinions, but Lombardi knows about as much as the rest of us, on what will happen.

I agree, I just felt it was really interesting on Kolb going to Cleveland which if you think about it does make some sense.

If true, I hope Skelton beats him out (in the 3 day training camp before the season starts).

I'd rather Cards sign McNabb/Palmer/Orton then maybe swing a trade for McCoy if it turned out kolb goes to CLE...

Whiz wanted Bulger last year based on different circumstances, and I've sure he still likes him ; however, with better options available, how is it that Lombardi can guarantee that we're signing him when we cannot contact free agents? I've heard more reports recently that we're either going after Orton or Kolb and that Bulger is more of a parachute.

The more I think about Bulger signing, the less comfortable I am with that prospect. He has not produced anything in 5 years and he does not fit long-term. There are less guarantees of him producing in 2011 than Orton or Kolb IMHO. The only benefit of this happening is perhaps Whiz strongly believes in Skelton developing into the QBoF with time and veteran leadership in front of him by a player not named Fail Anderson.

Even still, for the short and long-term, I would rather have Kolb with the 2nd option being Orton.

Agree, I would stay away from Bulger.

We sign Bulger this year and we draft Luck with the #1 pick in 2012.

Seems reasonable to me.

When did Whiz say he believes Skelton is our QBOTF? The last thing I read he said was that based on what he saw last year at QB we need a QB. That sure does not sound like he thinks Skelton is our QBOTF. How can anyone make a legitimate judgement on Skelton at this point. He was our 3rd string QB and did not even get many practice snaps. He played in 4 games, I think, and he was not Captain Marvel in those. It is way to early to declare that Skelton is anything but a rookie who we hope may develop into an NFL QB. There simply is not enough info on this 5Th round selection to declare him anything as of yet. I am sure he will be happy just to be on the team much less be named the QBOTF. He could be the greatest QB since Joe Namath but the odds are very long on that. He also could be Matt Leinart. In Vegas there would not even be any odds on what he would/could be. We all would hope he could be a QBOTF but I would never put any money on that based on current knowledge (Not conjecture).

Wouldn't matter how well Skelton plays in camp or the preseason, whomever we sign will be the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. For all Whis's talk about competition, it should be clear at this point that Whis doesn't care about on-field performance.

Look no further than the fact that Skelton had no chance against Max Hall for even the #2 QB position. I don't care how much Hall played in college, or whom he played against; that guy had no NFL ability, but Whis didn't give Skelton practice reps (not first-team practice reps--practice reps at all) until he was the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.

We know that Whis is stubborn about what he thinks is right--whether that be Derek Anderson over #7, Max Hall being an NFL player, the abandonment of the running game, the commitment to Levi Brown, the insistence that Joey Porter isn't a rotting corpse on the football field, the insistence on Andre Roberts as punt returner, Alan Faneca being the assured starter at LG, etc., etc., etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Whis wants to prove that the Cards should've done what it took to get Bulger last season by putting him into the lineup this season.

I think that when Skelton couldn't call the right formations and for the plays being called it kinda moved Max Hall ahead of him. The FACT it that the competition happened in training camp and Hall was better suited at the time to be the #2 QB.

The old Whiz is stubborn mantra. I think Whiz is less stubborn then those who are too stubborn to think that Whiz isn't as stubborn as they are. :)

See the below link to listen to Lombardi's interview with D & W. I found it very interesting and definitely worth a listen. Don't forget he is the one who called ML getting cut from the Cards before it was even a thought amongst most if not all of us. He has connections and gets more and better info then anybody else in the industry IMWO.

He blasts Orton and ML and Kolb.

When did Whiz say he believes Skelton is our QBOTF?

I never said that definitively. Please reread my post. Or maybe I misspoke. My hypothesis is that may be Whiz's thought process for bringing in a veteran like Bulger instead of the organization pursuing a guy like Orton or Kolb and giving up something in return. Perhaps, he feels Skelton does have what it takes. Or Bulger is the temporary solution to the problem at QB and the position will be reassessed at a later date.

I'm not 100% sure that he has given up on nor endorsed Skelton as the OBoF. The only guarantee I'll make is that Skelton is going to be the #2 on this team in 2011.

Lombardi said:
If the Eagles had stuck with Kolb, they would have been a 7-9 team. It's hard to watch tape of Kolb, because when you do you're disappointed in what he does. It's going to take someone in the building to say that this is the guy without having to look at the tape.

That pretty much says it all.

EXCEPT... he was way ahead of everyone else on the Leinart situation last year.

That said... why would Holmgren (who knows his QB's); others on staff with Philly connections - be prepared to send a no. 1 next year to Cleveland for Kolb?

Anyone who thought Leinart was going to remain a Cardinal had to have been brain dead or dilusional. There was no way he was worth $12 mil for the Cardinals at QB. That was what his contract was going to be last year had the Cardinals kept him on the roster. He was no better than anyone else we had on the roster, so there was no reason what so ever to keep him on it and pay him $12 mil for the season. That's why he was cut. Anyone that didn't have Leinart blinders on knew he was a goner.

That would have been Leinart's salary THIS year. His salary last year was fairly reasonable.
