With empty pools as their canvas, the Z-boyz paved the way to what is now referred to as "extreme sports," and created a lifestyle that spread infectiously to beomce a worldwide counterculture phenomenon. But all of this fame would take its toll on the friendships that they thought would last a lifetime as the sport that started out as an afternoon hobby turned into big business.

I am looking very foward to this one, growing up in the skate sceen, I have been apart of it since I was 8, so almost 19 years and lived in California for 4 eyars when I was young and got to experience the Dogtown sceen, and even in the late 80's is was awseome, just to bad I was never talented enough to be pro, but I can still hold my own.

I saw a documentary not too long ago written and directed by Stacy Peralta about dogtown and the zephyr skate team. Seems like maybe this is a more dramatic adaptation of the documentary I saw?

In any case, I really enjoyed the documentary. I think I saw it on IFC, if anyone has a tivo and has any interest in these guys and how they revolutionized skateboarding in the 70s I would recommend setting this on a wishlist to autorecord if it comes back on.

I watched part of an MTV special on this last night. The real guys were heavily involved in the movie so it should be pretty close to their perception of what really happened. What I saw looked pretty cool. I gotta admit I don't recall the precise timeline but I'm not entirely sure it's accurate of them to say they "invented" skating in empty pools, that was being done in San Jose in the early 70's when skateboarding got big and I'm pretty sure that's the same timeframe. Maybe the San Jose guys were copying these guys though, I was too young to involved in the pool part.

I'm still waiting for Blockbuster to ship me Dogtown and Z boys it's been tops on my list for weeks so it must be one they have limited copies of, I may just buy the DVD.

So I saw it tonight. Over all it was a good movie, but since one of my first memories on a skateboard was in 1985 in Venice in from of the Dogtown shop where the Zephyr shop was on I got my first Pro Board, a Matt Hensley Dogtown board(he is a pro pool player now for anyone who cares). I may have been about 6 years too late I feel connected to it in some way. So, I guess I expected more. Do not get me wrong, I really enjoyed it. There was a funny part. Spoiler down below.

Tony Hawks cameo as the astronaut who tries to skate and falls. the line "it must be the moom boots was awesome.
I do have a question, Black Flaggs first album was in 1981, so why was someone wearing a shirt in 1976. Just curious.
