When in doubt, blame the agent. From John Clayton:

Martz upset with Pace's agent
Rams coach Mike Martz took a shot at Carl Poston, agent for unsigned franchise left tackle Orlando Pace. Poston demanded a seven-year, $85 million contract for Pace that included a $24 million signing bonus.
The Rams control Pace's rights for this season and don't plan to trade him even though Poston asked for a trade.
"He will be back,'' Martz said of Pace. "He has no choice unless he decides not to play football again. There would have been potential for a trade were it not for Poston. Everybody knows what it is with them. To give up a couple of ones and not be able to work out the other end of it doesn't make any sense. No one wants to deal with the agent."
