Musicians Enter CBS' 'Monkey' House
To do a TV show about the music business, it helps to have some actual musicians around.
CBS' upcoming "Love Monkey" will accomplish that bit of verisimilitude, as a number of music-biz luminaries, ranging from Leann Rimes to Paul Shaffer, will either appear or perform in early episodes of the show. The dramedy, which premieres Tuesday, Jan. 17, stars Tom Cavanagh as a record-company executive with a jumbled personal life.
Sony, which is producing the series, will also use the show to help launch one of its own artists. Teddy Geiger, whose album is scheduled for a March release, will appear as in the first two episodes as a young artist Cavanagh's character, Tom Farrell, is trying to sign.
Country star Rimes is scheduled to appear in the second episode, along with Geiger and Ben Folds (without his Five, apparently). The following week, "Late Show" bandleader Shaffer will have a cameo as Tom tries to book someone on his show, and singer-songwriter Aimee Mann will perform.
Later episodes will feature the likes of James Blunt and indie darlings Robbers on High Street. The show is also trying to line up some big names for an episode in which Tom joins the campaign to save punk-rock landmark CBGB.
---------------------------------------------------------
Summary:
The series is about four male friends at different stages of life and love as told through the eyes of a single, thirtysomething record executive.
Michael Rauch and Mark Johnson will be executive producers. The Love Monkey will be set up at Sony Pictures Television and Paramount Network Television.
CBS has issued a midseason order for eight episodes of this adaptation of Kyle Smith's book of the same name.
Cast:
Thomas Cavanagh, Jason Priestley, Larenz Tate, Christopher Wiehl, Judy Greer, Ivana Milicevic, Katherine La Nasa, etc.
