BATON ROUGE – LSU baseball sophomore outfielder Ashton Larson left Tuesday night's game against Northwestern State with an apparent leg injury.
Larson came in to pinch hit for Ethan Frey in the bottom of the fifth inning and turned on one. He nearly hit it out for a home run but the ball hit the top of the wall in rightfield. He stumbled coming into second base for the double and was visibly upset and in pain as he lied on the ground.
"He had to come out of the game with a leg injury," LSU coach Jay Johnson said of Larson after the LSU's stunning 13-3 run-rule loss to Northwestern State. "I have not talked to the trainer, I don't know the severity of it. It was a good swing there and he's a tough kid.
"I'm sure he pulled a muscle in his leg."
It's unclear if Larson will miss any games or how long he might would be out with his leg injury.
Johnson called on Larson to pinch hit as the Tigers were struggling to generate consistent offense as his team was losing to NSU, 7-3, when Larson entered the game in the fifth.

LSU IN COLLEGE POLLS Where does LSU baseball rank in polls after series win over Alabama?
Larson hit a pinch-hit three-run home run against Alabama last Thursday that sparked LSU's come-from-behind victory in the series opener that night.
A near-every day starter last season as a freshman, Larson has seen role severely diminished for the Tigers this season and he told reporters that this season has not gone the way he had hoped it would coming into it.
"It's been interesting for sure. It's not necessarily how I pictured it going into the year, but I know that God has a plan, and through him all things are possible," Larson said of how he would describe his second thus far. "So, I've just been relying on my faith, relying on my people and trying to learn from anything that happens. Make the most of it.
"This team is really good, it's really talented. I love being with those guys and continue winning, that's what it's all about."
