BATON ROUGE – Arrival of SEC baseball brought with it humidity and warm temperatures to south Louisiana.
No. 1 LSU baseball opens up conference play with a three-game series against Missouri (8-8) at Alex Box Stadium beginning Friday afternoon (4:30 p.m., SEC Network+).
Jay Johnson's Tigers (17-1) made it through the nonconference only portion of their schedule with one loss and have beaten Dallas Baptist, Kansas State and Nebraska. Seven LSU players are hitting higher than .300 on the season, led by freshman sensation Derek Curiel (.450), who has safely reached bas in his first 18 at-bats of his collegiate career.
On paper, LSU's stout lineup appears poised to feast against the visiting Tigers' pitching staff which has struggled through the first month-plus of the 2025 campaign. Missouri sports the worst ERA in the SEC at 6.20 and its pitchers have struck out the fewest number of batters through their first 16 games.
