But this is much more than calling out USC.....he's calling out the PAC-10. We've been hearing this garbage since '03, get over it LSU fans, we share that title in '04, rather you like it or not. I hope this gets resolved one way or the other this year, don't care which bowl, just for a chance to shut them up!

Whatever anyone thinks of PC, he certainly does not come up with this trash, he wouldn't even talk about the possibility of the NC while he was on the booster circuit - just talked about the status of the team next season, mentioned how tough the games against CAL, ASU and Notre Dame were going to be, without any disrespect....he just kept saying that the ultimate goal is to make it to the Rose Bowl, as always.

Sorry, we share the championship. Too bad if you or they don't accept or like it...it is what it is.

Actually, the official NCAA Division I Football Champ is Delaware. Neither LSU or USC won anything official, so they can both claim whatever title they want.

Living out in Florida this is the same crap I here EVERY day. There is such little respect for SC its sickening. I am not going to deny that top to bottom the SEC has the best teams and athletes. But the Pac-10 actually matches up very well with them because of the pro style offense that the SEC is not used to seeing. SC has handed the SEC it a$$ (i think they are like 8-2 over the last five years) and I think Cal will beat Tennesee this year in Berkely.

But really Miles is an idiot. Nothing gets SC going like this kind of vitirol. Both Stanford and the Tigers (ahould they actually get to the title game) are going to be on the wrong side of 20 point losses should it come to that. And tell LSU to beef up there non conference before they start talking trash. There is a great article by Stewert Mandel on CNNSI.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/stewart_mandel/07/06/miles.usc/index.html

By the way - that whole billboard thing really pisses me off. I am DYING for a shot at LSU and just like i feel the Trojans would have beat both Ohio State and Florida last year I think they would crush the Tigers too. I just worry about the rivalry games with UCLA and ND that are always more than the records would have you think.

* And yes everybody I am a proud Cats alumni - but living out in S. FLA its a day to day thing that I have to represent the West Coast. Till Stoops and the Cats get it together and I can actually say something about the program - I am going to rep SC out here big time. Anyone want to move out here and help a poor guy caught in SEC country???:)

I appreciate everything you say.....I feel the same as you do when these idiots start with the "PAC-1" BS. Our achillies heel has always been our PAC-10 opponents and Notre Dame. PC just completed speaking to the clubs in the booster circuit, and the focus of these speaking engagements is the status of our own team...he will not even listen to NC talk....much less be critical of any team which has a opportunity to get there. We worry about our two major rivalries, which are always tough....particularly Notre Dame....we have a long history of both our universities spoiling each other's championship runs. The PAC-10 schools just have our number, they know how to beat us....this is what we think about at the beginning of the season.

My daughter lives in Tennessee so she hears the same BS as well, although not as much. She has requested that I send her everything I can lay my hands on that says "USC Trojans".....at her job she is surrounded by co-workers with ties to the big SEC schools, so I sent her a large poster, which she framed, autographed by the entire Trojan team, including Pete Carroll, which she hung up in her office at work. Prior to the Rose Bowl several of her co-workers (including a Wolverine, who is very nice) came up to her and said no way would the Trojans win, after all, we lost to the "inferior UCLA and Oregon", Michigan was definately going to win.

Of course, the Wolverine fan came up to her after the game and congratulated her, while the others just said that if SC had been playing against an SEC team the outcome would have been much different - whatever.

Contact me if I can help you out with any special Trojan stuff that I can send you for free, and please, no insult intended.....IF we get to play in the big house.

P.S. I'm sending my daughter a Cal T-shirt to wear when Tennesse plays them in Cali.

This pretty much explains Miles's comments as far as I'm concerned.

So what, then, was the motivation behind his unexpected boisterousness? Here's a guess: He's covering his butt.

Yep. That's right. Miles' comments were one big excuse-in-the-making. He's seen the prognostications. He knows the experts are projecting a USC-LSU matchup. He knows his fans are foaming at the mouth for just such an outcome. And he's trying to diffuse those expectations -- and temper the possible letdown -- by saying, "Hey, I'd love to play USC, too, but if they get there and we don't, it's because we had to play Florida while they got to play Stanford."

The PAC-10 is also 8-6 versus the SEC this decade. The SEC is probably the best conference in the country, but the Big 10 and PAC 10 aren't far behind, IMO.

No one is quaking in their boots because they have to play Vandy, Kentucky, Ole Miss or Mississippi St. Alabama has been pretty average the last few years, as well.

This kind of stuff is fun. It is a part of College Football. LSU fans love it and it pretty much sums up what the rest of the fans east of San Andreas fault feel about USC. Just some regional jousting. Factor in the types of articles SI loves to print to boost circulation. This is so typical of them. Just selling words.

It's mostly envy. When USC was struggling in the 90s, no one cared about their schedule. Now, all of the sudden, it's a big problem?

Just because 75,000 people show up for the spring practice intrasquad game in Tuscaloosa????? :D

Those people are nuts.....and they love to keep telling us that the SEC has better players, history, tradition....they love to claim their superiority in the loyalty of their fanbase...how they live and die for football, unlike we "bandwagon" fans on the west coast. They continue to say this, even when we beat them on the playing field. Intensity and loyalty? Wonder where Bear Bryant is buried......all I know is, one of the greatest coaches in USC history, John McKay's dying wish was granted.....his ashes were spread over the football field in the Coliseum where his spirit will live forever. With the vast superiority they claim, why they have not locked up every National Championship, the Heisman, etc. every year?

Here's hoping that a "weak" "overrated" PAC-10 team takes them on in the NC game and wipes the floor with them......maybe then they will ****.

I have been tempted to ask why they have not locked up every National Championship, the Heisman, etc. every year? They certainly love to claim that their conference is vastly superior to all.

That's some funny math if I ever read it. If you want to count the meaningless championship awards towards 'Bama that nobody recognizes then you'd have to include Washington and ASU among the National Champions as well as bump up USC's number. Also USC has won mainstream recognition of a national title more than twice since 1960. Hell, they won that twice this decade and a few times in the '70s if I remeber correctly.

l962 - Rose Bowl Beat Wisconsin 42-37

1967 - Rose Bowl Beat Indiana 14-3

1972 - Rose Bowl Beat Ohio State 42-17

1974 - Rose Bowl Beat Ohio State 18-17

1978 - Rose Bowl Beat Michigan 17-10

2003 - Rose Bowl Beat Michigan 28-14 *Note: LSU won BCS, while USC won AP championship.

2004 - Orange Bowl Beat Oklahoma 55-19

Pre-1960

1928, 1931, 1932, 1939

In all, USC claims 11 National Championships

144 All Americans

7 Heisman Trophy Winners

Also, we must prepare our players fairly well to enter the NFL since we claim the most Pro Football Hall of Famers than any other school with 11. The closest SEC school? Alabama with 6. 162 Trojans (#1) have been selected to the NFL Pro Bowl, overshadowing Notre Dame's 135 (#2). Not too bad for a team in a so-called "weak" conference.

I thought your gripe was with SEC teams. All of your examples were Big 10 teams. ??????????

Looks like you posted Rose Bowl wins.

We have won more Rose Bowl games than listed during 1960-present......the ones I noted were for the National Championship. Look up how the NC was determined pre BCS....it seems you are not a college football fan or you would know the history of the Rose Bowl and the significance of the invitation to play there. We have had a healthy share of winning against the SEC teams in recent years.

Isn't college football a "what have you done for me lately?" contest? Regardless, we have the history to back up our claims that we can play with anyone, anywhere.....and win.

Incorrect assumption Ms. Sunshine. We????????????????????????????????

Only people who were BIg 10 and Pac 10 fans gave a Rat's ass about the importance of the Rose Bowl as the sole criteria for MNC.

Incorrect assumption Ms. Sunshine. We????????????????????????????????

Only people who were BIg 10 and Pac 10 fans gave a Rat's ass about the importance of the Rose Bowl as the sole criteria for MNC.

OK Mr. Congeniality....you posted that USC had only won 2 championships after 1960.....we have the hardware to prove we have won 7 (1 of which was split) between 1960-2006 in Heritage Hall. There have been a fair amount of MNC that have been determined in Rose Bowl games prior to the BCS, surely you know that.

But of course, you will continue with your comments.....but frankly, I don't give a rat's ass.

I'm through with you. End of subject. :bigyawn:
