The Los Angeles Lakers suffered their third loss in a row on Thursday when they got run over 126-106 by the Milwaukee Bucks. All three of their frontcourt starters — LeBron James, Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes — were out of action, and it doesn't look like any of them will be back very soon.
However, it was a tremendous night for Luka Doncic, at least individually. He scored 45 points, his high in a Lakers uniform, on 14-of-27 overall shooting and 7-of-13 from 3-point range. He also contributed 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block, and he almost single-handedly looked to give Los Angeles a chance to win.
Los Angeles just started a rough stretch that consists of three sets of back-to-back games in eight days. Doncic said after the loss to Milwaukee that he isn't sure if he will be available on Friday when the team visits the Denver Nuggets.
Doncic hasn't been 100% lately. He's dealing with multiple ailments, including ankle soreness and a bad back. But he has proven that he's a trooper and is willing to play through pain for the good of his team.
With a 40-24 record, the Lakers badly need to return to getting wins in bunches, as they're barely in fourth place in the Western Conference but are just one game behind the second-place Memphis Grizzlies.
