It just occured to me that my generation is going to have a very strange, never before seen reference point to sports.
There is a very good article on the official site about Lyle Sendlein:
http://www.azcardinals.com/news/detail.php?PRKey=3024
In the article they mention that Lyle's father was an NFL linebacker. Robin Sendlein.
Now I get to the point. My thought process was: "Wow, I didn't know that Lyle's father played in the NFL. I wonder what team he played for."
Almost like a light bulb my mind told me he played for the Minnesota Vikings. But, I didn't have confidence in that answer because really, who paid attention to (with all respect to his abilty to make the NFL) Robin Sendlein.
When I google'd Robin Sendlien, sure enough he played for the Vikings.
My thought process was: "How in the heck did I know that !?!?!" I then looked at the years he played. He played from the early 1980's to 1985. Then it hit me that I knew Sendlein from the Nintendo video game "Tecmo Bowl". He was the other middle linebacker playing next to Keith Millard.
It then struck me that I am getting old.
BUT, that we are getting to a point in time where guys can be referenced through video games. How else would you know a guy named Cap Boso played TE for the Bears in 1985 ? Would I know anything about Tim Goad, old DT from the Patriots, if it was not for his abiltiy to instantly sack the QB ?
It is not a groundbreaking phenominom, but it is something we have never seen before as a reference.
*** Sidenote: If scientists every find a way for people to acquire and retain knowledge like this (for better purposes then old NFL players I played in video games) we all would be a lot smarter.
