Its being reported by several outlets (Dallas News, OrangeBloods.com) that Mack Brown has stepped down as head football coach of the University of Texas. Let the Saban to Austin rumors pick up even more steam.

Done deal. They let him step down with dignity. Once they told him the name of his replacement, he knew even his most loyal defenders would abandon him.

Mixed messages on Mack Brown's future as Texas coach

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...rns-football-coach-mack-brown-status/3959029/

Texas football coach Mack Brown denied a report Tuesday that he is stepping down as the Longhorns' coach. A person with knowledge of the situation also refuted the report to USA TODAY Sports.

The web site OrangeBloods.com reported that after 16 years, Brown will step down this week. OrangeBloods.com and other outlets reported Brown met Sunday with new Texas athletics director Steve Patterson.

Brown was in New York on Sunday and Monday for events related to the National Football Foundation, but left Tuesday.

Brown told 247Sports.com on Tuesday that he's recruiting in Florida. "If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn't be killing myself down here," Brown said. "I have not decided to step down."

Just my two cents: If it's a news story on Texas, and there's a @ChipBrownOB byline on it ... Take it to the bank.

Texas coach Mack Brown reaffirms job status

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...oach-mack-brown-reaffirms-job-status/3997601/

Mack Brown briefly addressed his status as the head coach at Texas while speaking the media during the Alamo Bowl news conference on Thursday.

Brown denied a report Tuesday that he is stepping down as the Longhorns' coach and reaffirmed that stance on Thursday.

"My situation has not changed," Brown said. "I've got the best president in the country in Bill Powers. What we did lose was an iconic athletic director (DeLoss Dodds). We've hired what I think is a great athletic director in Steve Patterson. Any time we have AD changes, it changes the game.

"I need to sit down with him and Bill in the near future to figure out where the program's going, all get on the same page and move forward."

The Regents and the boosters want Saban.

The President wants to keep Mack.

Mack wants to stay.

My guess is that the boosters tell the President that either he goes, or Mack goes peacefully. And since he and Mack are buddies, he'll convince Mack to step down tomorrow (after the football banquet).

The only question in my mind is whether Saban coaches Bama in their Bowl game before he bolts. I doubt it, since he could be recruiting for his new gig. Of course, that may be what he is doing now.

Texas coach Mack Brown steps down

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/texas-coach-mack-brown-resigns-004625735--ncaaf.html

Mack Brown united and revived a divided and dormant Texas football program and coached the Longhorns to their first undisputed national title in 36 years.

Now after four seasons with at least four losses, Brown is stepping down to make way for the next coach to try to push the Longhorns back into the nation's elite.

Texas announced Saturday night that Brown, who won the 2005 national championship, is retiring after 16 seasons, with his final game to be the Dec. 30 Alamo Bowl against Oregon.

Between this and the outburst of a prominent booster, I wonder if he'll get the same treatment that Ty Willingham got at ND...

What is the source of that tee shirt. Is it a one off or mass production and who is the author?

It was an Etsy shop, not UT. He'll have to get used to it down there, though.

"It's stuff like this that, according to NPR, gave Strong pause when offered the Texas job. Edith Royal, wife of the late, great Darryl K. Royal, called Strong and urged him to take the position," Yahoo! Sports' Graham Watson wrote.
