Mad About You Stars & Creator Close Deals For Revival

https://screenrant.com/mad-about-you-revival-paul-reiser-helen-hunt/

It looks like one more beloved television series from the 1990’s is well on its way to getting a present day revival. Fans of NBC’s hit 1990’s series Mad About You have cause to celebrate as stars Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser have both recently closed deals to reprise their roles as Jamie and Paul Buchman after talks of a reboot have been circulation for some time.

Reiser co-created the sitcom alongside Danny Jacobson about a documentary filmmaker (Reiser) and a PR specialist (Hunt) who portrayed the daily struggles of married life with a lot of humor. Reiser and Hunt had undeniable chemistry which seemed to really make the show work, garnering Mad About You five Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series during its 7 season run from 1992 to 1999. Hunt won four consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series for her role as Jamie Buchman.

Entertainment Weekly has now announced that Reiser, Hunt and Jacobson have all signed with Sony Pictures Television to help bring the series back to network television, over twenty years after it went off the air. It also notes that the show has yet to find a network, although given its huge success for NBC during its original run, it would be a safe assumption that the peacock network would likely throw its hat in the ring. The show is said to focus on the Buchmans in present day, as empty nesters now that their 17 year old daughter, Mabel, who was born during the last episode of season 5, has gone off to college.

And network TV wonders why everyone is cutting the cord... They've become such cowards that rather than giving talented writers the chance to create something new they are just re-hashing old stuff.

This is OBVIOUSLY coming because the stars don't have anything better to do. At least Reiser did Stranger Things--Hunt has been doing direct-to-dvd quality junk for years.

Not sure why you are saying it's "really pathetic on the network's part." According to the article, they technically don't have a network yet. Considering the state of modern sitcoms, is it really surprising that networks are looking at older properties?

I thought NBC already bought it.

As to the state of network sitcoms... I actually dig all of FOX’s live action (sans Ghosted) and ABC’s got a solid block.

CBS comedies ill never understand and NBC never has a clue what the f they’re doing.

I feel bad that Hunt has to stoop to this. In addition to the Emmys she won for Mad About You, she also won an Oscar for As Good As It Gets. But I guess this is what happens to middle-aged women in Hollywood.

ah come on man... Ghosted is hilarious.... the worst part about it is that its only a 30 minute show...it could be fantastic if they had more screen time.

It lost me at the pilot. I love Adam Scott and Robinson. Did I.T get better?

You just mean acting, right? Hasn't Hunt been directing series for awhile now?

EDIT: According to IMDb she's directed a couple of "American Housewife" eps, the new "Splitting Up Together" (which I haven't watched yet), and a "This Is Us" in the last few years to name a few credits.

Hunt's actually been directing TV for a while... and didn't she get nominated for an Oscar in 2012? Her career at this point is miles better than Reiser simply because he starred in that ATROCIOUS Paul Reiser Show that last five minutes on NBC years back (which, ironically enough, she directed an episode of).
