A friend was going to do it and emailed directtv and is under the impression that if you CAN get direct tv, you get free sunday ticket and $10 off per month. He says you cannot buy madden and get the online stuff without being a direct tv subscriber when you do have the ability to have direct tv.

Hmm. My wife bought me this for anniversary for the Sunday Ticket. Here's what the FAQ says:

Do I need a DirecTV subscription to access NFL Sunday Ticket?

No, it's not necessary to have a DirecTV subscription. Each Anniversary Edition includes a code that can be redeemed to access the full 2013 regular season (17 weeks) of NFL Sunday Ticket on computer, tablet, and mobile devices.

The 'unable to receive service' thing seems a bit arbitrary. Seems to me all you have to is tell them your apartment doesn't allow it, or your housing editions covenant doesn't allow it . . . so . . . ?

I got mine today and logged in with the code and it seemed to work. It told me the season starts Sep 8th, see you then.

Ironically I got that email today, about 10 minutes after I got the actual package from Amazon!

Also read something 3 days ago that said the response has been enough that Directv is FINALLY starting to realize they need to rethink their structure to offer several different Sunday Ticket plans including one for people who just want to watch the games on their computer and maybe stream to the TV.

I'd pay a hundred bucks a year for it even without the game. We were going to drive to Nashville and do the hotel thing, but for a fifth the price I get to watch every Card game from the comfort of my recliner. No brainer in all honesty.
