Every time we think things are getting better for women in Hollywood, something comes along to remind us — naaah.
Maggie Gyllenhaal, an Oscar nominee getting Emmy buzz for her work on the Sundance miniseries “The Honourable Woman,” revealed that she was recently turned down for a role in a movie because she was too old to play the love interest for a 55-year-old man.

Gross. That has father/daughter vibes all over it already. Can't imagine an even younger woman for a 55-year-old man. In the real world at least...and strictly IMHO.

Ridiculous, but I guess it depends on the plot. If she is 37 going for a role written for a 27-year-old (more than half the male character's age) then she really is making something from nothing. I guess we'll have to find out later which role she went after.

Maybe that was just their idea of a nice way of telling her she was not attractive enough for the role?

I'm not trying to be mean, isn't that pretty much how it works in casting? Is this person hot enough for the movie we are casting?

She has a valid point...at 18 years younger, being too old for the role should never be an issue....

unless they were casting for.... "Chester: An American Icon" then maybe 17 would be too old as well..... ya just never know with those Hollywood fruit loops
