Maleficent
A vindictive fairy is driven to curse an infant princess only to realize the child may be the only one who can restore peace.
Director: Robert Stromberg
Writers: Linda Woolverton, Charles Perrault (based from the story "La Belle au bois dormant and "Sleeping Beauty" screenplay)
Stars: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley
Took the wife and grandkids to this yesterday.... It was an excellent take on the Disney's old Sleeping Beauty animated film. Jolie, who I don't normally care for, was par excellence in her role as the evil (or maybe not?) queen of the fairies. The special effects were a very, very good blend of the realistic and cartoonish. The movie, ignoring a plot hole or two (few movies without them) moved along well and was entertaining throughout. Not one of Disney's very best films, but this was a good one, no doubt. 4 out of 5 stars from the bride, the grandkids and me.
Rotten Tomatoes gave this a 52% rotten tomato, almost exclusively for a bad storyline. To them I say, "KMA!" They were using Sleeping Beauty as a foundation, and in reality, that ain't exactly a great plot either. What else would one expect? While the plot WAS a bit formulaic, we didn't care, because everything else was so good.
Adults and preteens will enjoy this. Teenagers probably not so much, as there are no humanized machines, vampires or zombies in it.....
