Man City handed transfer deadline for Juventus defender Andrea Cambiasso
Manchester City want to sign a new left-back to bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad. The reigning Premier League champions have had their eyes on Juventus man Andrea Cambiaso since January.
According to Marca, the Cityzens need to move quickly because Juventus want to sell Cambiaso before June to balance their books. The sacking of Thiago Motta took its toll on their finances, and they need inflow soon.
City will have to be swift as other suitors might look to take advantage of the desperation in Turin to snap up the Italian international.
The 25-year-old has scored twice and created three big chances in 26 Serie A appearances. He plays 4.71 progressive passes (79th percentile) and makes 3.36 progressive carries per 90 (91st percentile).
Cambiaso is a technically excellent operator. That makes him the perfect fit for Guardiola. He can slot into midfield or central defence and even handle business on the right wing.
Cambiaso’s price tag proved a sticking point in the January transfer window. Juventus reportedly want €55 million plus bonuses for Cambiaso, but if City play their cards right, they might get the Old Lady to budge and accept a lower fee.
Man City should explore local options
While Cambiaso is an excellent operator, there are questions surrounding his physicality, especially in aerial and ground duels. He might face the same issue Sergio Gomez faced when he joined the Premier League outfit.
Man City should consider swooping for one of the impressive left-backs in England. They are already accustomed to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League.
Fulham star Antonee Robinson adds defensive solidity and attacking thrust to that City left-back position and would not cost as much as Cambiaso.
Bournemouth’s rampaging Hungarian Milos Kerkez has been in terrific form this season and should be on the City radar. So should Newcastle United star Lewis Hall after finding his feet in Tyneside.
