Just saw this Sunday night on HBO. I like Denzel Washington and really enjoyed this movie... Anyone else have an opinion?

Great flick. Mr. J-Lo is really good in that movie and DF really shows why she is the top up and coming star.

I was really surprised by this movie. Probably my favorite Denzel movie. Awesome tagline: Revenge is a meal best served cold.

Trivia from IMDB:

SPOILER: Christopher Walken was originally chosen for the role of Samuel Ramos's lawyer, Jordan Kaufus, but Walken wanted to play the role of Rayburn to break away from playing the role of bad guys.

Cool quote:

Creasy: Forgiveness is between them and God. It's my job to arrange the meeting.

Not sure it's my favorite Denzel movie, but it's damm close! I too was very surprised by the movie. I had actually never even heard of it, but found myself alone in front of the TV Sunday night - with a wife and 3 kids that doesn't happen too often... Really, really enjoyed the film!

That movie was RAW!!! I loved the production and lighting on it. It was very gritty and dirty. Denzel was friggin possessed! Denzel usually plays the good guy, but Man On Fire (even though he's the "hero") and Training Day (not a very good movie, IMO) were departures from his normal roles. I HIGHLY recommend Man On Fire!!!!

Director's cut is very good. Very music video-like, but that is Tony Scott's style. He gets in danger of falling into the "style over substance" category, but luckily he avoids it in this movie. It's his next movie that he totally has that problem (Domino).

Denzel is very good in pretty much everything he does IMHO. I will watch any movie with him as the star and can't think of one I didn't enjoy. I love that one movie "Fallen" what a great movie, any of you catch that?

This is one of my favorite movies. It is really well done, great script, great action, great cinemotography.

When it all goes to hell and Denzel just starts going off on everybody it's just pure classic.

I recently re-watched this. I couldn't agree more. The gritty feel is intense and does not let up. Perfect ending too.

Samuel: Your resume is quite impressive. 16 years of miltary experience, extensive counter-terrorism work. I'm surprised anyone could afford you, what's the catch?
Creasy: I drink.
Samuel: How does that affect you?
Creasy: Coordination, reaction time. Top professionals try to kidnap your daughter I'll do the best I can but the service will be on par with the pay.
Samuel: What if amatuers try?
Creasy: I'd probably kill 'em. That likely?
Samuel: No. No one is to know about your drinking. That includes my wife.

Denzel played this character perfectly.

I like this movie a lot. Agreed on the gritty feeling, and yes, Denzel was money in this one. It starts as a slow burn and just turns into a fun ride.

Has anyone ever watched the original starring Scott Glenn? I've never seen it and am curious.

I LOVE this movie. I love everything about it. This was the movie that taught me that critics are full of crap because this movie got killed by the critics and so I didn't see it in the theater. Then I saw it in the movie store (haha those were the days) and I decided to give it a try and I was blown away. I watched it again with my wife the next day, then again with her brother the day after that. I was the "Have you seen man on fire? You GOTTA SEE IT" guy for a while. So good. 10 years later, still good.

I didn't realize I had come across it by accident late one night I went absolutely crazy trying to figure out what the heck was wrong. At first, I thought I was mistaken and it wasn't Man on Fire--you know, the guide had it wrong--then something would happen that I absolutely knew had happened in the movie. Ugh. Maybe it would have been okay, had I known it was an original, but it still wouldn't hold a candle to the one we know.
