Manchester City appear certain to address one of their biggest needs this summer
Manchester City will spend this summer looking to strengthen their squad for next season and beyond. This season has become an end of an era at the club as Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave the club and a host of City’s other heroes could also leave this summer. Looking at Manchester City’s squad they have the building blocks in place to quickly return to the top of the Premier League.
But there are positions in Pep Guardiola’s squad that need to be strengthened. One of those is the right-back position. A new report indicates that right-back is one position that City are determined to improve this summer. For that particular role, two players stand out above all others who would complement what Manchester City already have.
Fabrizio Romano has reported via his official X account that Manchester City’s summer plans include signing a right-back. Furthermore, Romano reports that Hugo Viana is currently working on options to cover that position for next season and beyond.

Two players do stand out above all others as viable Manchester City targets.
Manchester City have been linked with a host of right-backs in recent times. But when you look at who Manchester City could target Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento and Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso stand out as the players who would fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Mick Brown has previously reported for Football Insider that Newcastle have been putting plans in place in case Tino Livramento leaves the club this summer. Furthermore, Brown reports that Manchester City have an interest in signing the versatile full-back this summer. Subhankar Mondal has relayed a report from TuttoJuve for TeamTalk that Andrea Cambiaso remains a target for City this summer.
Looking at both players they’d be the ideal fit for Pep Guardiola’s squad. Both players are versatile and blessed with tremendous technical ability. They can also both play at either left or right-back if necessary. In the case of Livramento, he showed how adept he is defensively during Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool. He kept Mo Salah out of the game and he’d add what Manchester City so desperately need.
Andrea Cambiaso is a similar type of player to Livramento but he may be a touch more gifted technically than Livramento. The Italian international is another player who can play either full-back position and his ability on the ball would be a huge boost to Pep Guardiola’s squad. He is also competent defensively and would be an immediate upgrade on Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes.
Manchester City appear set to sign a right-back this summer. They simply have to. Looking at the players City has been linked with for the role, Tino Livramento and Andrea Cambiaso appear to be the stand-out candidates. If City could sign either they’d immediately improve Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season and beyond.
