The 2025 men's NCAA Tournament now enters its' second weekend, meaning that the Sweet 16 has now officially arrived.
In the coming days, we will officially know just which teams will make their way to San Antonio for the Final Four next weekend, but before we get there, two more rounds are still left to be played in the coming days in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight.
Set to take place this upcoming Thursday and Friday, here are some predictions for the upcoming Sweet 16 games in each region, as well as some potential games to watch for.
Beginning in the South Region, Auburn vs. Michigan is likely the biggest matchup of the two, but don't sleep on the Michigan State vs. Ole Miss showdown either, which features a red-hot Rebels team coming off a 91-78 upset of No. 3 seeded Iowa State. As for picks to win each, I'll go with Auburn and Michigan State both to set up a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown in the Elite Eight.
The Arkansas Razorbacks are the NCAA Tournament "Cinderella" this season, and the pick is for the No. 10 seeded Hogs to keep their winning ways going, upsetting No. 3 Texas Tech to reach the Elite Eight. As for the other game, No. 1 seed Florida will be matched up against No. 4 seeded Maryland, with the pick going to the Gators.
The biggest talking point entering March Madness in the East Region was surrounding a potential Elite Eight game between No. 1 seeded Duke and No. 2 seeded Alabama, and I'll say the hypothetical Blue Devils vs. Crimson Tide matchup in fact does take place with both picking up wins in the Sweet 16. Both of Duke and Alabama will be the favorite in their respective games, but will need to be careful to avoid a potential upset against two very talented teams in Arizona and BYU.
In conclusion, the Midwest Region will seed No. 2 seed and No. 3 seeded Kentucky meet for the third time this year, and I'll say that the Wildcats get the best of the Volunteers yet again, defeating their SEC foe for the third time this season. As for the other game, No. 1 seed Houston will take on No. 4 seeded Purdue, and I'll say the Cougars take care of business to move on to the Elite Eight.
