The Cavaliers have had ongoing discussions with the Miami Heat about an Anderson Varejao and Wally Szczerbiak for Shawn Marion trade, a league executive familiar with the discussions said.

So, here is what the Cavs are asking themselves now: Do we dare?

Miami has had discussions with several teams lately on Marion, including the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings, sources say, but Cleveland could deliver the most intriguing proposition. Marion has struggled with the Heat – averaging well below his career averages in scoring and rebounding – but several league executives believe he’ll be more motivated and valuable with a championship contender. That’s the reason Cleveland is entertaining the possibility. GM Danny Ferry and coach Mike Brown are wondering whether Marion could be the difference in a conference final against the Celtics.

Wow, that would be a sick trade for CLE. Not sure I see it with the recent injury to Z.

Have they seen Marion's disappearing act in most playoff series???

Honestly, I don't see much changing for Marion there. Marion needs a low post presence to feed off of (a la Amare etc.). I think that was his problem in Miami. Going to the Cavs, he is just exchanging one stud in D-Wade for LeBron. Not sure Cavs are any better in the post.

i actually think it's a major step down for them. They need Varejo's big body against the Cs and would definitely need it against the Lakers.

That team needs another player at the two or 4, not a 3 who can't create his own shot and disappears come playoff time.

actually, that team probably would have been PERFECT for J Rich.

Athletic 2, who can stroke the 3 and create his own shot? I wonder if they tried moving Wally's expiring for him.

the cavs wouldn't bother trading for marion, and their front office has argued against any claims of a potential trade for marion. Marion is smaller than lebron, so where would he start? we need ben and Z in the front court for the offense/defense combination they provide. we wouldn't put him at the 2 guard because he doesn't shoot consistently enough to space the floor the way delonte west does. also, the cavs will need andy for boston, orlando, the lakers, and a couple other teams because of his defense and rebounding. Whoever mentioned that the cavs are weak in the post is pretty far off base. Z is a very good post player with an outside shot to match. he is also the best tipper in the league. Lebron plays the 4 for a while in each cavs game, and he is an incredibly capable post player. varejao's offensive game has taken great strides over the past couple of years and he is also becoming somewhat formidable in the paint.
