Caro of the Arizona Republic made this point:

Marion's shot

It may be due to playing more minutes than any other NBA player or playing more power forward or just being on a bad team.

Whatever the reason, Shawn Marion's shooting is at a career low. Marion's 42.6 percent shooting is misleading because it is only his three-point shooting that has plummeted.

He still hits 47.3 percent of his shots inside the arc but just 31.7 percent beyond it. He made 39 percent of his threes over the past two seasons.

"I don't know if it's a grind or lost concentration," D'Antoni said.

Because of his steals, rebounds and points, Marion still ranks 15th in the league's efficiency rating.

Another posibility is that he altered his shooting mechanics when he bulked up over the summer. Perhaps if he concentrated on his shooting rather than weight lifting this summer, he can get his stroke back.

If Marion got his outside shot back, he would be a great piece for this team. As it is, opponents dare him to shoot threes and he bricks most of them.

I have been saying this for over a month. I would say Marion's shot looks flat from outside and it is probably due to the fatigue of playing against guys much bigger than him in the post and from playing the most minutes in the NBA.

That makes sense, but Marion's shot has been much more inconsistent since the beginning of the year. January was by far his worst shooting month. He's had a down year shooting from the get go though.

I agree. I'm sure if someone looked up posts in November, it would show the same thing.

BTW, I think the fatigue shows up as much on how often he shoots 3's rather than how ineffective they are. Attacking the basket takes a lot more energy and I think he stops doing it when he gets tired.
