Markieff Morris shot 0-7 tonight against the Kings. However, the bigger issue is his continued poor shooting, not just tonight. Looking at game logs Markieff has shot 8-46 over the last 6 games and below .385 for the season thus far. IMO, Morris has fallen in love with the outside shot much like Channing Frye. Their games are looking more and more alike.

I guess another thought, is Markieff taking the outside shot because of preference or because he has trouble getting his shot off inside.

It's a product of the Suns philosophy. "If you're open, shoot it". "An open shot is a good shot". The issue is that he is a power forward and a rookie at that. He's going to be open all day long on the perimeter. Gentry needs to set some boundaries with him like most coaches. He needs to earn his stripes in the paint before he can venture out to the perimeter.

On a related note. Kenneth Faried is beasting in Denver, so much so that fans are calling him Manimal.

He needs to post up more and work on his inside game.

I like Faried because he knows his strength is hustle and playing inside.

The reason I brought up Morris' shooting is my concern he is not willing or able to fight for baskets inside. I agree, Gentry needs to limit his outside shooting for his own good.

I DONT like the way the coaching staff is developing Markieff.... he should be focusing on being a finisher and a hustler instead of a mini-Frye...

ridiculous...

Its not Morris fault, its Gentry. Morris actually has a pretty decent post game which he shows when he's given the opportunityunity but Gentry wants to make him Frye 2.0.

Just fire Gentry and promote Elston Turner to HC imo.

There was no official game thread for suns vs kings? Wow, this team really is beige.

He is a terrible athlete and short. It is no surprise he hangs around outside. He is a role player who will hopefully eventually be a Kurt Thomas type that plays tough defense and can knock down an open shot.

I never expected more than that from Markieff. Comparisons to Rasheed Wallace are just silly. That guy was twice as athletic, 3 inches taller on pure height and clearly much longer reach since Markieff has very short arms relative to his height for a NBA big man.

Faried is doing better right now. I have him on my fantasy team and he produces some of the best per minute numbers in the league, but his ceiling is also NBA role player. Too small to be a force in the post offensively.

This is what I feared about Markieff, that he is not tall or athletic enough to mix it up consistently inside on offense thus he is forced outside to get his shot off. If he could become a Kurt Thomas type player I would be very happy. I guess I was hoping he might become a player that might become like Boozer or Millsap. I'd even be happy if he played like Gooden.

Now Markieff is playing like a poor man's Channing Frye.

Talk about overreacting to a rookie player.

When Markieff starts powering inside for his shots, then I will feel better. His fascination with the outside shot is worrying particularly because I fear he has trouble getting his shot off inside. The Suns already have Frye. They need someone who can score inside.

Kurt Thomas comparisons are silly too. Thomas led the NCAA in scoring and rebounding. He's an extremely skilled player.

Should we expect anything else from the Suns? Developing and leaning on the inside game for offense isn't sexy enough. Not to mention that Nashball doesn't jive with developing a young players post up game....and before anyone mentions Amare, the Pick n Roll doesnt count.

Indeed. KT found his niche in the NBA and became a valuable role player for a few teams. Not valuable enough for Planet Orange though.

Go to the freaking basket. Something the Suns seem to teach out of every player who plays here.

If we wanted another forward for outside shooting, we should have made a play for Derrick Williams.

Actually, we should have just drafted the correct Morris twin.

Moving KT to Seattle was all about saving money (approximately $8 million) for an expiring contract which in itself should have had a positive value. However, Steve Kerr poured more sugar on it and gave them two first round draft picks as well. This trade still sickens me.
