Hate to clog your board with this stuff ... just a little frustrated at my team

the organization just held a presser to announce that MLB has authorized them to start looking at possible markets to relocate to as early as the 2007 season

the team also stated that they will in no condition renew or extend a lease in dolphins stadium (which hits it's finality in 2010)

Also they will no longer petition the state of FL or the city of miami for stadium funding ... they will continue to work with various counties

Loria will not sell the team and will move it if there is no viable stadium resolution

in the interim, payroll will be reduced to meet revenues - hence the firesale

I wish that stupid state could get a stadium done and that people would turn off their TVs and actually go to a game - 2 WS victories, a conistently compeative team over the past 4 years, spending to bring in players and state and locals just can't get anything done

I have to agree with their stance and just hope they follow through with it ... i'd hate to see them leave, but am sick of the instability and firesales - by 2010 and I want them heading to a place where they can generate revenue, keep their prospects and start winning year after year - regardless of location

Jeff Loria is an cornholio. That guy ultimately drove the Expos out of Montreal, now he's doing the same to the Marlins in Miami.

Florida has a good, loyal fan base. This sucks because the Marlins have been poorly given their just due in Miami. Despite winning more championships in the last decade than the Heat, Dolphins and Panthers, all three of them got new stadiums/arenas while the Marlins had to take second fiddle to the Dolphins.

As I said, this is shameful. Damn shameful.

I'm not a fan of what went down in montreal, but in florida loria has done his part and I can't pin a bit of blame on him

he spent money and fielded a winning team

they just have a bad lease, poor attendance and a state and local legislature that wants to bully everyone around and not help out the team while throwing money in every other direction

Thats what it seems like to me. Look at last offseason. They signed top notch FA's in Delgado and extended Lowell to a lucrative deal (even though he tanked). They were fielding a great team and were picked by most to win the AL East and go to the WS, which they won in 2003. But this past year, Miami once again voted against giving them a new stadium. It's a shame cause they have, or had, a great team which was ruined by politics. Crazy how a team like the F'in AZ Cardinals can get a new staduim but world champs like the Marlins can't. Florida will soon be without any baseball as the Drays are next to go.

Say hello to the Las Vegas Marlins.

Baseball just doesn't seem to work in S Florida....which has always surprised me. I thought, given the very strong Hispanic population there, that baseball would be wildly popular but for a variety of reasons it didn't happen.

Prob because of the high retirement population won't pass any ballots to get a new stadium. I'd be surprised if Vegas gets a pro team any time soon. I know theres been a lot of talk about it but I don't think their ready yet. Still too many issues with the sports betting

Vegas, last I read, was pretty much set to start building a new stadium for an MLB team (the last location I saw was somewhere near Caesars). I mean, if any city can get a project going quickly with minimal problems, I would think Vegas would be that city.

Personally, the sports betting thing, to me, is a non-issue. I think it is just a warm fuzzy thing the leagues do in decrying sports betting but every league knows what side their bread is buttered on. If it is such a big deal for MLB, they can make LV getting a team be contingent on NV outlawing taking any action on a Vegas team. I mean they used to do that for UNLV (they don't anymore I believe).

I think the big problem is, how would the city of Las Vegas receive a team? LV, much like Phoenix, is very much a magnet city for people from all over. I believe the stadium would be full alot of the time becuase people would build baseball trips to hit Vegas when their team was in town. Cubs would sell out for sure. Dbacks and all the CA teams are easy drives or quick flights and they would draw as well.

Of course it's not to us.... But you don't think Bud Selig has a problem with it? Thats a huge liabilty and I don't think he wants to be made an example of if something does happen. The other option is south New Jersey which would be a good option as well. There is a lot of money in that area and fans would consistently come if the Marlins can get a competitive team back and stay with it. I would love to see a team in Vegas, its just that I think the sports betting is a bigger issue than we think. Question is, what division do they go in???? They prob stay in NL East for a while but do they eventually come to AL or NL West???

I would agree 100% than Selig thinks it is a bigger issue than we do. The last thing Selig wants to do is be the first Commish to head into vegas only to have a betting scandal erupt. I think, however, that the fix is easy which is why I would consider it even a non-issue for Selig.

An example is the Sacramento Kings. Maloof owns the Palms and for sure one cannot place a bet on the Kings at his casino and I think you may not even be able to bet on ANY NBA games at Palms. The easy out is to ban betting on the Vegas team in Nevada and I think that should head off any real issues.

Selig would have to move 2 teams to AL if the Vegas team were to become an AL team so I think it would likely stay in the NL (and believe me, the Vegas money men would want NL since it would mean teams like Cubs, Cards among others which are big draws on the road). In a perfect world I would adjust the divisions this way:

NL East - ATL, PHI, NYM, WAS and PIT
NL Central - CHC, STL, HOU, CIN, MIL and COL
NL West - AZ, LA, SD, SF and LV

I see where your coming from. But I still think there will be more tid bits that MLB will have to iron out, stuff we're not aware of. I am for them coming out west. I think it would be great for the NL West. However, I think it would be easier for the MLB to keep that team in the east. We'll see how much pull Vegas has. I bet someone will step up and get it there

I like that a lot. I would love to see a pro baseball team in Vegas. I know it wouldn't happen, but in my imagination, each seat would have built in gambling machines. You could bet on EVERYTHING. What pitch will Webb throw next? You bet sinker or fastball, you make less, bet something he doesn't throw as much, you get more. Instant, real time betting, whew, it would be insane.

Also, the team should of course be called the Gamblers.

They also got back the Mets top pitching prospect and a replacement 1B coming off an outstanding rookie year. The soon-to-be Las Vegas Marlins are gearing up to be a contender in 2010. While I can understand your frustration as a fan, the Marlins were not going to contend this year with the nucleus they had coming back so instead of continuing to throw money at the problem or ignoring it in hopes it goes away, they decided to blow it up and rebuild.

How can you complain? They did get a World Series a couple seasons ago. Do you know how many DBacks fans on this board are wishing the Dbacks had decided to rebuild and get top prospects for their vets after the 2003 season?

uhm ... it's the fact that the payroll is not going to be over 30-40M for the foreseable future

and i'm really not complaining about it ... just frustrated by it

given their situation this is what has to be done ... i'm very happy about their past success ... i just wish 2 WS victories and a continually contending team would of been enough to get a deal done and provide long term stability to the team

from a baseball sense i'm happy with what this team has done ... from a business and political sense, i'm not

i'd gladly trade both WS victories for the d'backs stadium and the ability to maintain their roster and remain competative

just like in '97 there are things that have to be done, it just is never fun knowing that you have a good 3-4 year span ahead to be in the thick of it again .... especially when you have no idea where the team will be playing

and the nucleus on this team is pretty good ... last year they were one of the favorites to win it all

the roster needs retooling and they never have been ones to throw money at a problem ... most of the talent it young and sometimes when a prospect is ready, you can trade a higher priced vet and restock the farm

There are some good young arms and i'll love to watch willis and cabrera along with new guys like hermida, olsen, vargas, etc.
