Reading the Lucas thread made me wonder.
Do you think Marmie will install his defense or be a caretaker of Lovie Smith's defense?
I hope he installs his own because we all know how well it works. :D

He'll tweak it, and at times it might be predictable to us. This is Marmie's chance to show the league that his players sucked, not his system. He does have better players in St. L than he did here, but I personally think Marmie calls some of the worst third down formations than any other DC in the league.

I dont think it will be anything like Lovie Smiths D.

I also dont think it will be like here as well. I am sure he has tweaked his system some.

The one big difference between Lovie and Marmie's D philosophy will be the dline. Smith wanted all of his dlinement to be smaller but faster and quicker. Which is why he tried to get Kennedy down to 305 lbs. This year Marmie is allowing Kenedy to be at 340 lbs and also let Damione Lewis gain 15 more lbs and is now at about 320lbs. The dline will be bigger but far less speed and quickness.

I think he ought to let Kennedy and Lewis get up to around 500 pounds. Then they could just wallow around out there and grab feebly at Shipp as he roars past them. :D

I'm curious - the first time he gets burned trying to sack a quarterback, will he hold off on pass rushes?

We had to be the only defense in the league that played against a QB with a broken leg, and never tried to touch him.

I think even if Smith had stayed in St Louis the Rams defense was not going to have the same productivity they did last year. Bulger threw a lot of picks but the Rams defense was exceedingly opportunistic, so it didn't hurt the Rams as much as it should have. The Rams had the most takeaways, five more than second place Baltimore, but also lead in giveaways.

The problem the Rams are going to face is that they had 22 fumble recoveries last year, no one else had more than 17. It is highly unlikely that they will again get that many fumble recoveries. Now I know five more fumble recoveries doesn't sound like much but that's almost a 1/3 increase over the second place team, so it is significant, and went a long way towards masking Bulgers mistakes.

While it could be argued that forced fumbles are a result of a defensive teams skill, the actual recovery of the magic bean is another story, and I would say luck factors in more than anything else in the game, except for Ruben Brown getting elected to Pro-Bowls every year.

So, I think unless the Rams fix Bulgers interception problems, their offense and defense are going to look worse than the 2003 version of the team. Regardless of who is defensive coordinator.

Hopefully, the upgrade in our offense, coupled with our familiarity with his defensive system will allow us to shell them this year.

The Rams got extremely lucky last year. They will collapse this year. They lost Grant W. to the Hawks, and Little might be suspended because of his DUI. There secondary is still intact, but they got a lucky amount of turn overs last year. Seattle will be good, and we should at least compete, so I see the Rams easily being 6-10 and not any better than 9-7. Plus they have a new defensive scheme, designed my a man with horrible results for the past 5 years.
