Marvel’s Agent Carter

http://www.deadline.com/2014/05/abc-picks-up-marvel-agent-carter-renews-agents-of-s-h-i-e-l-d/

ABC picked up Marvel’s Agent Carter in conjunction with renewing Marvel’s freshman drama, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The order to Agent Carter is straight-to-series. The argument is that the project already has a prototype — it is inspired by the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell as well as the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Agent Carter follows the story of Peggy Carter (Atwell). It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark, all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers. Reaper creators Michele Fazekas & Tara Butters serve as executive producers/showrunners, Captain America: The First Avenger‘s Steve McFeely & Christopher Marcus wrote the script and also executive produce, along with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb. The script was finished more than four months ago (“the script is great,” ABC’s Paul Lee said back in January), the option on one-shot’s star Atwell had to be extended as it came up three months ago.

It sounds interesting and I'll give it a shot, but they might be pushing the package a bit.

probably, but at least they got someone with serious charisma in the lead role. She was pretty damn good in Cap 1 and for that alone, she probably makes this show instantly more watchable then the pretty faces they threw at Agents Of Shield.

Don't know about this one. Not sure fans will latch on to this time period and the characters. It will be interesting.

Did anybody catch this? I thought it was excellent. Hayley Atwell is awesome and the show came out of the gate strong. I hate to say it but this show is better than AOS and I like that show.

It just seemed like instead of searching for the shows identity, this show knew it from the get go. With the excellent cast, the cool retro feel, this is more than I thought it was going to be. I can't really describe it but the show feels like old school TV. Just fun.

The tie in to Captain America and Stark was awesome and it didn't feel forced. Yes the show doesn't feel like a typical Marvel property.

This show just earned a place on my DVR.

Enjoy it while you can. Unless ABC's pilot season is atrocious, this one won't have the numbers to stick past season 1.

I would be happy if it simply gets the same chance as AOS. Also, I thought I read that somewhere that ABC was projecting between 4 and 6 million viewers and a 2.7 including DVR in the 18-48 demo. It sounds like that was what they expected for a show that was a January premiere and filling a gap between the time slots of it's primary series.

If that is the truth, ABC may get there. I don't know if they will meet the demo target because I don't think they add the DVR ratings in until about a week after the show right?

At any rate in terms of the show, I was very surprised. I wasn't sure how a show in the past would play out but I thought it was an excellent start.

Agreed on all points, although I think AoS is better now. Not at the start, but once it got going, it really started to rock.

The Mrs and I really enjoyed this. I don't know if I like it better than AOS, but we'll be watching all of these in the meantime. Will there be other Marvel tie-ins to this like AOS?

That would be tough for this show. I mean there is an organic Captain America tie in. However, it might have to be lesser known heroes. The Avengers characters are out because of the time frame. To me the most logical would be Wolverine. However, the Rights to the character will probably ensure that never happens. The Human Torch is another possibility but again same issue plus competing movie. There is also the Sub Mariner but that would almost feel like a fish out of water scenario (pun intended).

My guess is like I said they would need to draw from lesser known characters. There was an Avengers like team called the Liberty Legion around that era. It had characters like Patriot, Bucky (he is out based on current storyline), Miss America, Whizzer, Thin Man, Jack Frost, Red Raven and Blue Diamond. Again, though, I think adding these types of characters would take away from this show which feels more "grounded".

This may strictly be an Agent Carter versus Hydra type thing.

You're right, of course, and it's a damn shame. So many great crossover story lines among the X-men, Avengers, Spidey, etc. and we'll never get to see them on the big screen.

I really hope the rumors are true that Marvel (Disney) is trying to get the Rights back. Some of my favorite crossovers were with Spiderman and the X-Men.
