I really hope this guy is the one. We have needed a center for a long time. He is one of the players I will be watching closely this preseason.

The irony of this is while we've needed a center for a long time, only 4 guys have started at C from 2008 to 2017. Sendlein missed 6 games from 2008-2015 and Shipley started the one he missed in 2015. The 5 other games were in 2012. Stable mediocrity for a decade.

Trivia- Name last guy not named Shipley or Sendlein to start at center for the Cards?

Edit: that was a dumb guess. :)

Don't know who started when Sendlein was out in 2012, but I believe Al Johnson was the starter before getting hurt and letting Sendlein take over full time.

I'm a believer in Cole. I think he will do well, however there will be an adjustment period. That being said, I have been wrong about as many college linemen as I have been right. IMO, it is not terrible as it was going to happen sooner rather than later.

The Cardinals haven’t drafted a great offensive lineman since the ‘70’s

Luis Sharpe was the last one in 1982. Of course, he had his coke issues.

I've been watching alot of Cole's snaps since he took over. It's really a mixed bag. There's some plays where he's getting abused. He's having a tough time time dealing with Peters and Knee Diche one on one. Other plays though, he looks good. I've seen him lock up Peters a couple times and look good pass blocking. But if you take his percentage of bad plays and project it forward to the real games, I think it's a nogo. They'd have to do something different. The good news is that he has a month to improve. Hopefully his issue isn't mostly strength related because I don't think there's enough time to improve that much.

If you look at the alternatives, I think Munyer is kind of similar. Smart and technically sound but maybe lacking in the power needed to hold up in the middle against starters. Then Boehm seems like kind of the opposite. He's built up his NFL body over the last couple years, but something else must be lacking.
