I still say this was one of the more bone-headed managerial choices I have seen. Mathis hasn't played in months, both calling games and hitting.

For all his alleged pitcher-whispering, the Dback pitchers didn't seem comfortable out there with him behind the plate, and his first four at-bats were painful to watch.

I was surprised and some what upset they didn't put Iannetta back there. He has been lights out when it comes to hitting. Mathis, before he was injured, was stinking it up when it came to hitting.

I believe Torey started him to make Zack feel more comfortable and last as long as possible so we wouldn't have to burn another starter. Well, once that did not work out I was surprised that Iannetta was not sent in as a pinch hitter for Mathis (and replacing him in the lineup).

That is my opinion, but Torey has made many more good decisions than bad. His head is on the block, not mine.

I share your opinion. Perhaps giving too much power to Greinke went to his head. An ace does not get hit the way he did in a winner-take-all game. It is not just about being at the top of the rotation. It is about setting an example.

And you are absolutely right. With three Catchers having had starts during the season, the light hitting Mathis should have come out right after Greinke did. It is not like we have only one backup Catcher. As another Mathis once sang, "Chances Are". Chances are we could have done better.
