If they did do a couple more, I would hope that the Wachowski brothers would take the time to craft a decent story, with plausible plotlines like they did with the original matrix..and not do what they did with the last two, which was throw as much action and CGI special effects on the screen as they possibly could every moment possible.

these movies would be so ridiculously expensive and most people hated 2 and 3. why Warners would do this would be a mystery to me. I mean, I could see audiences seeing a trailer for Matrix 4 and either laughing or just collectively asking each other WTF?

Somebody liked them. The three together had a box office of well over 1.6 billion world wide. I'm sure the number crunchers have been hard at work. A Matrix movie in 3-D (no matter how awful) will make massive bucks.

Yep. I'm not sure if the Wachowski's hold much clout anymore considering their last movie for Warner Bros. bombed, but if the bean counters think that the franchise has legs, then they'll at least listen to the ideas.

I don't see the average movie-goer suddenly getting smarter, or changing their taste for mind-numbing, pointless, action flicks (see Transformers 2).

If WB makes them, they'll make money.

Yep. And I know the very mention of his name makes a lot of men pull out their hair, but Keanu Reeves is a huge draw. 3-D Matrix in Japan (and the rest of Asia)? They'll start lining up a week before it opens.

those movies will be 250 million dollar behemoths to make... i'd be shocked if that ever happened with a) the critical drubbing the last two took b) the drek the Wachowski brothers have produced since then and c) the extreme dimishing returns from at the BO from Matrix 2 to 3.

Are they doing it just to cash in on the 3D craze? I don't even GET the 3D craze. I haven't seen one 3D movie that I thought would be any less spectacular in 2D, and I found the glasses and the inevitable headache really annoying.

A prequel to the first movie would have been interesting, imo. Before Neo, which could be a good thing too. But the two sequels weren't particularly good so I wouldn't expect much improvement if they continue with more of the same.

Supposedly what is driving these potential sequels is that the Wachowski brothers have this new "technology" idea that can be integrated with 3D for a new effect. Much like they created the new effect for Matrix (bullet time).

That sounds great and all but a story is not what is driving any sequels...they will probably be bad.

Besides, I think that last Wachowski brothers movie I liked was "V". They have done anything relevant since then.

Avatar is about the only one I can think of that is better in 3d... but surprisingly because the 3d is pretty subdued..... little to none "spear in your face" stuff.

But the glasses are indeed a pita.

P.S. If they simply MUST do more Matrix movies, I think the only way to go is prequel(s).
