He's leaving BYU and will graduate so he'll be eligible right away. 2 schools being mentioned are ASU and UCLA. UCLA because Alford apparently recruited him out of HS at UNM, and Carlino really only left UCLA because of the environment at the time(Reeves Nelson) he actually liked the school from what I've heard.

ASU because he's a local kid and ASU losing Carson can just about guarantee him lots of playing time.

My guess is he picks ASU, quite frankly I hope he does. He's a reasonable college player but you can't have TWO kids like him splitting PG and that's what UCLA would have with him and Bryce. Both can make 3's and pass but neither is really a PG and neither can guard anybody.

Once upon a time he was a top 10 recruit nationally while his teammate Nick Johnson was allegedly riding his coattails.

But in 2014 don't see why either school would want him. ASU actually has a good high school point guard coming in and UCLA has Alford. Carlino is mediocre at best. His shooting numbers aren't even that good for a kid who supposedly excels at the craft.

Someone used the phrase "hot garbage" to describe ASU's recruiting class on another thread. Sounds like that may not be the case if we have a good point guard coming in.

The two quality guys including the point guard are both ranked in the 80-120 range nationally so that's in the crapshoot territory. Basically the people that watch them daily project them to be 1st/2nd Team All Conference Types as upperclassmen with outside shots of the NBA. So not hot garbage but nobody that's going to win a bunch of games or put butts in the seats next year. More in the Jordan Bachynski, Ty Abbott, or Derek Glasser vein than a James Harden, Ikie Diogu, or Jahii Carson.

Rest of your class is JC's with checkered pasts and no major offers. Nobody knows what to expect with that. The Justice kid won't play at ASU for more than a year or two. His high school numbers are pretty weak for a major D1 school.

Thanks for the insights

Kansas is apparently considering getting involved with Carlino which surprises me.

My opinion of him is he can't guard and that's exactly what UCLA does NOT need. I think his shooting numbers look worse than they are because of the system at BYU which basically encourages the guards to jack up shots. They are one of those teams where taking a 3 on a 2 on 1 break is not considered a bad shot.

He's not a PG but I think he's a better shooter than his numbers show, in a system that required him to take good shots I think he'd look less like a chucker.

If UCLA didn't have Alford I might think differently but having 2 kids who can't guard me splitting time at PG is a bad idea. Unless of course Hamilton winds up playing PG and he's not exactly a defensive stopper himself.

ASU has a glut of undersized guards similar to Carlino on next years roster, I don't see how'd really help. On the other hand, Sendek likely knows the end is nigh and may nab him just on the hops that he turns into a steady outside shooter and can keep the team afloat. It's too bad Carlino isn't 6'8''+.
