Cassel would have been worse than Kolb.

I think Ryan Fitzpatrick is a solid starter...can't believe we would go into a season thinking Stanton is the guy. Unproven, often injured, and never more than a 2nd/3rd type QB even after several opportunities.

I wouldn't say he got opportunities. Maybe like Lindley got an opportunity (a horrible one, but one nonetheless), that's about it.

The next four years he backed up Stafford and Luck, which are two picked #1 overall QB's. He had no shot of starting over those guys.

It doesn't mean he's any good, or that he'll take us anywhere, but the guy really didn't have a shot more than anyone in almost league history when you consider who he was behind. Even in 2008 he was behind Culpepper, Kitna, and Orlovsky and while Lindley had a really crappy shot, Stanton had to work with an 0-16 team.

So we're judging a career backup as only a backup because he was behind two #1 overall QB's (that people wanted badly, one in suck for luck, and the other proving to be a 5000 yard passer), and when he did it was early on in his career at the tail end of an 0-16 historically bad team.

He may suck, but he really hasn't had a chance yet. He's got a strong arm, matured now, and knows Arians's system.

This is the best shot he will ever get. He either takes it and runs with it, or more likely sort-of sucks but is better than what we've had in the last three years, or less likely but still possible he sucks and plays like Derek 'moxie' Lindley.

But his circumstances before this shouldn't really point to him being worthless or just a 'backup'. Lots of good QB's at one time backed up #1 picks or lower drafted studs.

The odds are against us, but there's not much we had a choice from. Which goes back to past decisions in past years and the people to blame the most are gone. (except for ownership if you want to blame them).

I won't push for anyone being excited for him, hell I'm not, but I personally am going to give him a chance to suck and show he's a backup QB before labeling him forever one.

I wish Palmer would get cut, but it doesn't look like it's happening. Jason Campbell is still out there. Perhaps if we somehow don't draft a QB. An after draft option.

Cassel was an option, but he's a guy who's had Bowe and Charles around him and couldn't make it work. Not a big loss, if any at all.

One year, $4 million for Cassel

To the extent that the status of quarterback Matt Cassel as a potential starter in Minnesota depends on what the team will pay him, the answer is, well, unclear.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Cassel signed a one-year, $4 million contract. That’s $3.5 million less than he would have earned with the Chiefs in 2013.

Sorry, disagree 100%.......Fitzpatrick was HORRIBLE last season and I think that Cassel will do well. Agree to disagree.
