Jets are seeing what they can get for him. Would he work out here or is he just washed up?

Unless we were to name him an immediate #2, he brings us no value. Could be huge for someone tho. I would replace ellington with him but he still wont see the field so not worth giving a pick. Even if he replaced CJ, I doubt I would give a pick for the production.

If we hadn't signed CJ I'd be all over this as a #2 to DJ, but I don't see the point here.

Boy, adding Forte and having David Johnson and him as a 1-2 punch would be something to behold. It would allow BA to keep the offense identical in terms of play calling and it would allow him the luxury of playing Johnson as much as he wants at WR.

The Cardinals are still $11M under the cap. $4M for Forte this year (plus his salary for 2018 is $3M) is a manageable cap hit when one considers that the combined salaries for Johnson and Forte would be $4.615M.

Plus, what David Johnson could learn from Forte would be invaluable, as Forte has been the poster boy for all-purpose RBs since he entered the league.

Do it Keim! We saw what the Falcons did with a prolific 1-2 RB punch last year!

He isn't a feature back anymore but could be a nice compliment to DJ and fill in starter. The way CJ2K played the other night is scary. Forte would be an upgrade but he also get paid 4m. You would have to cut CJ2K and Ellington (2m) and have space for the other 2m.

If those two were released, it would make sense. If keeping either of the two, not much of a point. I'm a big Forte fan but that was years ago, I am not up to date on if he can still play. I just remember his years with the bears seeming like LT in san diego. Every offensive play flowed through him.

WTF?

already being three deep at RB, Why would anyone think of giving UP something for an older running back two teams have given up ON in one offseason?

No. this is beyond stupid. DJ already knows how to be the best all purpose back in the league because HE IS THE BEST ALL PURPOSE BACK IN THE LEAGUE.

Again, why in the world would we give up something for a guy who TWO teams have given up on, while we're already three deep at RB, with one of them being the best in the league?

Forte rushed 10/43 versus the Giants on Saturday. I watched the tape of his carries, he's still plenty fast and strong.

Beyond David Johnson there is a lot of uncertainty about this RB group. K. Williams was supposed to be the #2 and he looked like it versus the Cowboys in the HOF game, but hasn't carried the ball since because he was moved to top return man. Having Forte would be a major upgrade over Williams, Chris Johnson and Ellington. Forte could keep the offense prolific, if, God please forbid, David Johnson misses any time---BA's offense is the perfect fit for Forte.

Bingo. All in on that, BRR.

I was thinking too that imagine if the deal could include QB Drew Stanton which would save the Cardinals $1.5M on the cap...plus Ellington ($775K)...means by subtraction they could add Forte for just $1.4M added against the cap, leaving the Cardinals still roughly $10M under the cap.

Bryce Petty has a bad MCL sprain and could be placed on IR. Not sure if Todd Bowles wants to head into the season with Hackenberg as the #2 behind the oft-injured Josh McCown.

Hard pass, unless we're getting the Forte of 5 years ago.

Giants NEED a RB, and they just played the Jets. If they are interested, the Cards should be, also. If not, then no.

He's washed up.

Would not trade anything, and I would be shocked if any team would. RB's in their 30's just aren't that good.

If he can't find a place on the Jets - the team with the worst offensive talent in the league - how valuable can he really be?

Matt Forte has never rushed below 800 yards in all of his 9 seasons in the NFL. Last year with the Jets he rushed for 813 yards on a last place team and caught 30 passes for 263 yards. With added receiving yards, he's always gained over 1,000 yards...in 2014 he had 808 receiving yards (that's not a typo!) to go with 1,038 rushing yards. To have him as the #2 RB behind David Johnson would be extraordinary.

I'd take Forte over CJ AND Ellington at this point. I agree he would be a great 1-2 punch with DJ. As long as they aren't asking for the moon that is :)

I like the idea of Bowles taking Stanton....dreamin' is free...

I mean he is a little better than CJ, but I would not be willing to trade anything for him, especially because ideally David will get 90 percent of our carries.

Well, I will amend that, I would be fine trading Stanton if they are silly enough to want him.

Yep. And to have DJ, Forte and AE on the same roster only means we get to keep KW as well.

Pull the trigger BA because winning is your forte'.

Forte's stats have declines from 1800 total yards... to 1200 total yards... to less than 900 total yards. yeah... let's give up something for a guy who's old for running back years, and is CLEARLY on the downside of his career... while we already have the BEST RB in the game, a solid backup with Williams and two solid #3 guys making peanuts.

Great idea.

We are THIN at RB after DJ. I like Chris, but he has no burst left. The problem is, he is the only guy of the backups who can pass pro. Kerwin is a nice change of pace, but we saw his blocking ability on an ill fated punt in the Seattle special teams disaster last year. Penny is nothing special and Ellington? Eh. While an older back, Forte has a similar skill set to DJ. I'd have to consider a 7th.
