I don't get it, Matt is 'damned if he does damned if he doesn't'.
He gets slammed for pictures of a beer bong party (and let's not fool ourselves, there are plenty of our own beloved Cards doing similar things but without pictures) then he is working on improving himself and he gets slammed. He didn't say he isn't working with Lott in the video, he worked with Glazer 3 days a week for 1-1/2 hrs to learn an edge. I doubt he is stiing home the other 4 days doing nothing, that's a pretty big leap to assume that he is doing ONLY the MMA trainging
Well, I neither slammed him or damned him for his MMA experiment nor did I claim that he is only doing MMA in the offseason.
I actually said that I've been impressed, just like everyone else, with Leinart's apparent maturity. I just think this particular situation comes off looking like a publicity stunt.
Perhaps I'm being too critical but it scares me that at this point he still has to develop ways to becoming mentally tough. I hope it all translates to NFL success. But as I said earlier, part of my concern is that throwing punches is not something I would want my QB or pitcher or point guard doing in the offseason.
Marcus Allen doing karate and breaking a finger wouldn't particularly effect how he was able to run the ball. Matt Leinart breaking a finger on his throwing hand would be a bit different.
Yoga, plyometrics, ballet or whatever. I've got no problem at all with any of them if it makes the player "better"(more durable, fit, flexible, etc.) but Leinart choosing MMA because he consciously thinks he still needs to be more mentally tough, risking his hands in the activity and yet another article about him improving are red flags to me.
I really do hope that he is doing everything the right way for the right reasons. My instinct is that there is something kinda fishy smelling though.
