The Palm Beach Post reports the Dolphins have considered carrying Ryan Tannehill as the No. 2 quarterback, making the loser of the David Garrard-Matt Moore battle expendable.
Tannehill has looked better than expected early in camp after his play speed "slowed down considerably" versus the first-team offense in spring practices. A league source tells the Post to expect to see a lot of Tannehill in the preseason. Although Joe Philbin wants to wait until the entire offense is installed before making a decision on a starter, Garrard is widely viewed as the favorite. Due $2.5 million this season, Moore could fetch a late-round draft pick from a QB-needy team.

He is much better than what we have.

This team needs a real solid veteran with proven skills. If not a McNabb then someone with real talent. Obviously they don't come available often, but we need someone.

If I were the Cardinals I'd explore the possibility of getting Gerrard.

If we're gonna suck, I'd rather we suck and get in draft position for a QB. Matt Moore only plays well at the end of the season when the entire team is playing with nothing to lose. That's how he was in Miami last year, that's how he was in Carolina before they relied on him full-time. His one chance as undisputed starter fell flat on his face with the Panthers. 43 point dropoff in the QB rating if that says anything.

David Garrard is listed as the first-team quarterback on the Dolphins' first official depth chart.

Virtually every observer that has been to Miami's camp has pegged Garrard as the leader of this this three-way battle. Now the Dolphins have made it official. Heading into preseason action, the Week 1 job is Garrard's to lose while Matt Moore could end up as trade bait. Either way, impressive first-rounder Ryan Tannehill figures to get under center sooner rather than later. Garrard is 34 and was out of football last season.

Still better than anyone now or until we draft a QB or sign UFA Flacco next season.

Flacco is horrible if the objective is to win the Superbowl...I say start Skelton and if we cannot win with the guy, then we have to pay the price with a losing record and a losing record is the only way out of this QB hell because that is what is required to be in a high draft position, which is the only position to address this problem...draft a high caliber QB and hope you choose well or it is just the merry go round crap of mediocrity and musical chairs and constantly saying "whose available" while Fitz's career dwindles away along with the rest of our talent.

I don't know...this offense is SOOOOOO complicated that he probably couldn't learn it in a shortened camp/offseason and probably would be ineffective...we would probably have to wait until next season to REALLY assess him if we got him...

I like Gerrard. I think he can be an excellent QB.

Matt Moore. Bleh. Id take him over Kolb, although theres just about anybody Id take over Kolb at this point. If hes playing he sucks, but thats a big "IF" because hes hurt all the time.

I think he will be the starter in Miami when it is all said and done. Moore is one of those guys, like Fitzpatrick in Buffalo, that teases and teases and then tails off as the season goes on.

But, as Bodha said, I'd take Moore over Kolb.

I'd rather have Skelton than Moore. Moore is just a mirage of a good QB. He does enough to fool you into keeping him, but when he becomes your guy, he disappears. Not surprising Gerrard is beating him out and the Dolphins are considering just running with Tannehill at #2.

4000 yards this season.

I'd take Skelton over either dude. Moore sucks, and while Gerrard is what I consider passable, a stop-gap, he's old. Skelton is probably our future. If anyone pushes him it's going to be Lindley, because I don't think we're going to draft anyone or get anyone in FA.

We gotta let it go, because we're stuck with what we have. Skelton and Lindley, that's our future, IMO. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it is.

For a 7th round pick, I'd do it in a heart beat. He's only 27 years old and perhaps on the way up, who knows.

We need someone to back up QB J Skelton. Not a rookie. QB K Kolb is done at this point. I just don't see Kolb as the #1 QB on any team any longer.
