When he left, I thought there was no way he and the DBacks would ever be reconciled since the parting seemed very bitter. Maybe I missed it, but what is the story with him becoming a broadcaster and becoming part of ownership this year? Was his problem with Colangelo and now that he's gone he was able to come back? Is the ownership deal how he's being paid off for his back pay?

I was just curious and thought maybe some of you guys might know some details.

I believe it's because he was one of Jeff Moorad's long-time clients which he essentially helped paved-the-way for Matt's return back to the organization....

Let me tell you...I'm delighted by his color-analysis that he's provided thus far.. I know some times he tends to sound somewhat redundant on occasion, but it just proves how knowledgeable/passionate he is about the game......

Okay, I didn't know he had Moorad as an agent, that does explain a lot. I also prefer his style as an analyst to Grace's "Wahoo! Aw shucks!" style.

Do you know if his being cut into the ownership is his buyoff of his back pay? I was just wondering if we might see the DBacks do this with other players they owe money to. Like Jay Bell for example.

Officially there is no relationship between his back pay and his investment - except the investment is over a several year period, deferred, so to speak. LOL.

Last year Matt did a weekly radio gig on KMVP 'The Positive Side of Sports' and provided pretty interesting commentary on the DBacks - usually discreet, but not party line - and other baseball and sports stuff, and he really developed his skills as a broadcaster over the course of several months.

Matt isn't redundant. Ken Phelps -- now THAT's Redundant. now THAT's Redundant.

Care to overstate that about the "Baron of Banality"

I enjoy the TV broadcasts that have Matty serving as the color man. I'll take his far more original and knowledgable comments over TB's shallow enthusiasm any day!
