Melo won't put the Knicks over the top.

They would be better off using their cap room on DeAndre Jordan.

They already are set with Felton, Fields, Chandler and Amare at 4 out of 5 position. Acquiring Melo and then playing an undersized lineup won't win them a championship.

Watch Amare be much less effective once Melo starts taking away shots from him especially since Melo likes to score in the same areas.

TBH I can't think of many superstar combos that would be worse than Amare+Melo.

Just read a take on this on MSNBC and an anonymous former Suns teammate of Amare said he would be happier of Melo doesn't go to NY because Amare could remain the man.

Article also says money is a factor and it sounds like he'd get more for NJ than he would for NY.

I thought Melo was going to New Jersey. Three team trade with Nuggets Pistons and Nets.

We should ask Dudley who made that comment. He's probably got a pretty good idea since he's close to Amare and very friendly with the media. He might not be able to spell the guy's name but I'd bet he lives in the same house Jared does.

He isn't going to the Knicks, per se. The Nuggets threatened the Nets that they would take a deal from the Knicks. The Nuggets/Nets/Pistons deal is so convoluted and is getting messy because everyone is trying to rid themselves of horrible contracts. Add the fact that this is a very public negotiation which Denver is unhappy about.

This is our chance to be the great facilitator. Why aren't we in there accepting bad contracts and gathering up extra draft picks?

Baron Davis is not a superstar.

Chris Paul + Deron Williams would be a close call.

Fine, you drive over to Baron's roller skating rink and YOU tell him he's not a superstar.

So if they get Melo, how is that going to be any different than the D'antoni small ball lineups with no true big man that couldn't win a championship in Phoenix?

Look at what the Nicks are doing this year. Winning lots of games by beating alot of bad teams, very fun to watch, scoring a lot of points (allowing alot of points), playing no defense. Sound familiar Suns fans? It's not going to translate to a title there anymore than it did here IMO.

They won't especially since Melo and Amare are the same mold of player.

Offensive minded, defensively average at best. Both like the midrange jumpshot and attacking the rim. You can only run that many offensive sets like that so I don't think that Amare and Melo can reach their best playing next to each other.

Melo doesn't stretch the defense at all so I don't see how Amare would benefit from playing with Melo at all.

PS: Superstars -> Lebron, Wade, Kobe, Durant, Paul, Williams, Griffin, Wall, Rose, Howard, Amare, Melo, Rondo, Bosh, Gasol, Dirk and maybe still Nash.

I guess I'm on the lonely side of this one. I don't think he's going to New York and I can't stand the guy but I think he helps the Knicks tremendously if he does go there. Carmelo plays a very physical game and he's a very good rebounder. I think he and Stat become a tremendous scoring threat that few teams can defend. Would it be better to put Amare next to a Dwight Howard or a young Tim Duncan, absolutely, but this tandem would still be special. It might not make them the favorites but it would get them a lot closer to that level.

Can someone fix this to "Melo to the Knicks", this title thread is bothering me.

I was thinking the same with Amare and Carmelo. They both are bangers with variations of midrange game. Melo is slightly better off the dribble and at contested mid-range, Amare is better at finishing with contact down low. Neither create shots for other players or facilitate at all.

Amare would be best with Chris Paul/Felton, a slashing athletic forward (Chandler), a 3 pt shooting sg (Gallinari/Rautins), and the one thing he has always lacked is a DEFENSIVE center...

They are close.

Mike Bibby has never even been an all-star and we are giving him Superstar status?

Sure he is. As a freshman, he single handedly won an NCAA championship by leading his team to victories over three number one seeds (first time ever). Some revisionists will try and convince you that Miles Simon, Michael Dickerson, Jason Terry, AJ Bramlett, Donnell Harris, Lute Olson and others contributed but don't listen to them - I'm pretty sure they hear voices that no one else can hear.
