Melvin-haters???

I recall seeing a huge amount of hate tossed Melvin's way not too long ago. And while I have not been a real intense D-back fan for all that long, I am a lifelong baseball fan... I think the fact that he has this team in first place at this stage of the season is quite an accomplishment. The D-backs are horrendous on offense, and yet they have somehow squeezed out 60 wins. I find that amazing...

Who knows if they have enough horses to get them through and into the post season. Conventional wisdom would say they don't - although Upton being called up could make things very interesting...

In any event, I haven't seen any screams for Melvins' head as of late... thought it was interesting how that coincided with the team being in such a run and in first place...

I still hate him

Who knows how much better the young kids would be doing offensively with some consistency. Maybe the Dbacks would be 10 games ahead of everyone instead of 1, who knows. We've seen little to no development at the plate from the young guys (Chris Young being a possible exception) and we even had to move Hairston a guy who everyone said "could hit the big league level" (yet, he wasn't), so is this partially Melvins responsibility? Who knows. Its so hard to tell from an outsiders point of view whats self motivated improvement, whats good coaching, whats natural ability, etc.

I don't think Bob Melvin will ever be more then an average at best manager, and if thats OK w/ you, thats understandable. However, I've been spoiled by the Dbacks and I want more NL West titles, and I'm not sure Melvins the man for that job.

IMO, the fact that the D-backs are in first place right now is a very positive statement on Melvin.
There are a ton of factors that weigh into the success of a Manager, not the least of which is support from ownership. So again, given what Melvin has had in the way of "talent" and resources, I think anyone with an objective eye would look at this season thus far as a job very well done.

Pretty sure it was Josh Byrnes and not Bob Melvin who canned Seitzer, managers almost never fire one of their good old boys unless forced to by the powers that be. And I'm not going to give Melvin credit for figuring out 100 games into the season that consistent lineups is the best way to handle a young team.

I still don't like Melvin - but we're winning so I will put my hatred aside...for now.

Some people always hate the managers unles the team is consistantly #1. IMO if the DBacks make the playoffs then BM has to be in consideration for Manager of the year.

It's been losing streak, winning streak, etc., all season. Right now the D'backs do have the 2nd best record in the NL.

From here on out, our schedule is comparitively soft. Let's see what happens.

And if the young guys know their role and show consistency.
